Thanks Hucka1a, On my searches I only found a bunch of hot rodders comments. They liked their street/ strip units. I also found some older input on this forem suggesting them (sorry I didn't keep a link), They (daaco) have some basic rebulit units and a couple of upgraded ones for our 7.3 's. Wish The fellows on your link had more details. Always nice to use others experiences.
Thanks
Yeah, I wouldn't mind a Daaco, or any t/c in that price range if I knew that it would hold up. That's kinda why I started this thread to see what kind of t/c's that others have used.
I'm in a similar situation, Got a rattler T/C and a fine stock trans so I am going to change out the T/C. I am of the same mind as Aklim. I can't see puting a $1200 T/C in front of a stock used tranny. If the tranny goes out and you get a quality replacement you will definatly be buying another new T/C to protect your new tranny investment.
I'm not sure about who does it or not. I do know that Precision Industries will cut one of their TCs apart and restall it for you if you wish. not sure if they will do for other brands or not. I just cut one of mine apart. To cut, clean it and reweld and rebalance it costs about $400+.
Personally, if the trans is old and stock, I would get a Ford stock TC and wait till I had the trans rebuilt. Seems like the cheapest solution. I might be wrong but someone told me that it was about $200 for a stock TC.

$200, that sounds like me right there. Like I said my truck just has 43k, and trans is fine. I'm just sick and embarrassed of that rattler.
I'm at 197K on my trans, and like I said my second tc is about shot. It is starting to rattle pretty good and the fluid temp is rising. The tranny as a whole is still in pretty good shape as far as I can tell.

Look into RacerX Automotive's X6TC torque converter. I put one into Stroken's truck behind a ~500hp engine, and just riding around in his truck last night, i really like it. With his big injectors and turbo, it starts out "loose" to get the engine up to speed and the turbo spooled, then "tightens" to rocket you out like a slingshot. He guarantees it under 600hp, and its only $695. I have a PI TC in my truck and honestly i HATE it. Maybe not the actual TC in design, but the slip from the high stall for my application sucks. I only like it when the TC is locked, and in that point it's not really a TC anymore, just a triple disk clutch.

Not sure of your application but doesn't Precision Industries give you a free restall within 2 yrs of purchase?
Can you give me some more info on that? Brian built my tranny for stock injectored truck, and i think he uses a looser (higher stall) speed to make the truck not so doggy. now im pushing about 100hp more and hopefully eventually 150 more again, i want a REALLY low stall converter.

Have you talked to Brian? He did tell me that depending on how the truck is meant to be driven, power, etc, etc, he sets it up different. Was there a fix from Brian?
Also, you need to talk to PI. A few months ago, when I broke a trans (700R4), I had them clean the TC for me. They asked if I wanted it restalled at that time. Also when you buy a TC of their's, within 2 yrs, you can have it restalled for free. That was what I did with my TC. I bought it off ebay and had it restalled for free from PI.

I agree 100% with not putting one of the expensive Converters in a transmission that shows any sign of wear.
If it's an older transmission with a bad converter but in good shape otherwise, I disagree on using a Ford stock converter or a rebuilt stock designed converter at all. They have problems that cause repeat converter failure in stock trucks used for towing. There is no way to reinforce or fix the stock converter design with improvements such as covers etc. That's why they are called rattlers, among other things.
New Ford Diesel converters are in the $450 price range. There is application and pricing confusion because not all Ford converters are for use behind Diesel engines. Rebuilt stock converters sold for Diesel engines maybe in the $200 range, but still have the same problems inside.
Among the reasons for owning a truck is to have the ability to tow and carry loads. Especially a big block or Diesel powered truck. There is a redesigned 7.3L Diesel converter without the stock problems--finally. It's in the same price range as a new stock Diesel rated T.C. from your Ford dealer.
Recently some large brands have added a warning not to install their rebuilt Ford stock design 7.5L gas and 7.3L Diesel converters in trucks that tow heavy.
