5r55e trans. problem
i have a 2001 sport trac that the ovrdrive is not woking properly. it wants to slip if you keep overdrive on(od light starts flashing also) but if you turn overdrive off it shifts fine. transmission shops wat 1500.00 to rebuild but i pulled pan off and theres very little metal on magnet. could anyone give m any advice on this..thanks..lynn

Sounds like the overdrive band is broken (these bands are known to break).
The only way to tell is to turn the front adjustment screw in, if it will turn in more than three turns the band is broke.

The another common problem is that the bores that engage the bands have a side load on them due to the way they engage the bands at an angle. If they wear enough, they do not engage the bands fully resulting in slippage.
