here are some pictures after a little more progress today. im taking it to the body shop tomorrow and letting the pros finish up the truck so i can focus on other details of the project like the suspension.
cutting the holes for the tag lights was interesting and one of the tag lights looked like it was messed up during production but i was able to modify it just a little. Also as a note for you Mar-k the VA antique tag didnt fit. The hole center on the tag is down 29/32" from the top. I drilled out the holes in the roll pan and modified the tag a little. The VA antique tags are just a piece of aluminum plate with a sticker on them and they are a little bigger than the standard tag. Im not sure how other states are but it may be worth making a note for the VA customers.
Great pics shift1313.
The back looks great. After it's done at the shop email me pictures and we'll put them on our website. Also, I'll let our engineers know about the antique tag.
Thanks!
thanks guys. ill be sure to send you pics after everything is done. It still has to be lowered and a few other things need to be done.
carcrafter, after i asked for the pics i saw you posted to my 18 20 rims post. The truck looks great. i love how the bumpside is smooth and the seam at the back corner is gone. Body seams really date things. I also saw the pics of the front end swap, great work!!! Im really not looking to put that much time into it. Ive already put maybe 60-75hrs in body work before handing it over. Who knows how much more time i will have in suspension/brakes and other little things.
i definitely think that roll pan and tailgate weld in clean the back end up a million times over. Thanks mar-k for making these products
dont forget about the handle relocator kit and tag lights I think everything was like $350. They also have a neat hidden hitch drop down tag setup if you are planning on towing with that turbo diesel
Oh I didnt know the tailgate relocator was seperate, Thanks. I assume that $350 is for everything including th roll pan, if so I could live with that for that look.
carcrafter, i think it was actually $325. the roll pan was like $125, tail gate weld in like $70, Handle relocation like $70 and the tag lights maybe $30, cant remember that one but its all on their website.
mlevario. I didnt fully weld the tailgate piece. I tack welded it along the top edge where the old handle was about every inch or so. I didnt want a full weld here to reduce the chance of warping. I also did the same down the sides about ever inch. I talked to the body shop and they said this was an okay procedure. The bottom i followed the same but they are going to fully weld it and grind it for clearance with the bed. It opens and closes fine but its a tight fit so once its painted a little extra clearance wouldnt hurt.
Looking back fully welding that top edge would have been nice as i could have just ground the seam back and used less body filler but the piece isnt going anywhere im sure.
i think it would have been cool to rig up some solenoids inside the tail gate so there was no handle, but then you need power back there in the tail gate or rig up two in the corner of the bed yada yada.
