I have a 92 F150, 4.9L 5speed. I am having a problem starting my truck. I push the clutch all the way in and nothing happens. I found out the white plastic retainer bushing connecting the neutral saftey rod and the clutch assembly was damaged so I replace it. Lately I have had more trouble starting my truck. This has become very troubling.
My question is does anyone know how to bypass the neutral saftey switch? That would make my life so much easier to just turn the key and it go. I understand its there for saftey purposes but with 203,725 miles, I am just trying to make it last. Many thanks.
There is two wires going into the switch, cut out the switch, bare the wires and twist them together and put a wirenut on them and, make sure they are out of the way of any movementn or heat sources.
I have a 1991 Ford F150 with the 5.0 liter V8.
Where is the neutral safety switch? I looked under the dash, but didn't see it. I also had a buddy look under the dash too, but he couldn't find it either.
On a truck with a five speed there will be a plastic switch that slides on the clutch rod that connects the pedal to the master cylinder.
There will be four wires 2 for the clutch neutral safety and 2 more to disengage the cruise when you push in the clutch. The switch is located to the right of the steering column and slightly above it.
There is 2 green wires and 2 red/blue I believe you will want to splice the red/blue together. I would first try taking the connector off the switch and jumper those 2 together with a short wire to make sure it is correct.
I would try on my truck except I have no starter or batteries in mine right now.
