I have a 56 Fairlane that I changed from FordOMatic to C4. I kept the column mounted neutral switch, it will start in park or neutral. I used the stock column indicator, reads great except reads 1st or low when you are actually in 2nd. Used the stock shift linkage with slight modification, works great except you can't shift into 1st or low only 2nd. All other shift positions are find P,R,N,D, 2nd. Used the stock crossmember with some modification.
I know this is a car and not truck but maybe some help to you.
You would want to have the engine start in neutral or park other wise if your engine stalled in traffic you would have to stop and put it in park before you could start it . ie no rolling start. That could be very dangerous in traffic or on the freeway.

In the 1953 Fords the neutral safety switch only allowed starting in neutral. The engine would not start in park. This is a column mounted switch. I don't know when Ford initially allowing staring in Park.
