Checked my water level the other day and it was a bit low. I also noticed that when i pulled off my resevore cap there was no pressure. Im assuming i have a leak in my system somewhere. But i done see any leaks, cant smell anything sweet in the exhaust. And the thing runs like a top.
Im a bit worried, but i really have know idea how to handle it.
If it was cool or cold, there should not be any pressure, in fact if cold, there may be some degree of vacuum. The vacuum occures as the hot coolant cools and contracts. The cap opens at about .5 in of vacuum and draws coolant from the resivour into the rad. If the resivour is low or empty, the vacuum could have opened the cap and drawn air into the rad and eaqualized the pressure. I suggest that you fill up the resiviour to the correct mark and drive the unit for twenty miles or so and then let it cool down for 4 to 5 hours, and check the level in the resivour.
Check the under side of the water pump for sign of a slight weep or leak. I believe that there is a weep hole on the under side of the pump.
ya there should be a weap hole, i understand exactly what your talking about, but thats why im worried because there is normally pressure.... anyways well see what happens
look in the VEE of the motor behind the alternator. i had a leak in the cross over tube bolted to the bottom of the manifold at the front passenger side bottom. i noted after the antifreeze got on the front plug and shorted it out.
it could be leaking through your intake gaskets and going into the cylinder but at a very slow rate and you will not smell it in the exhaust. if there is no visable leak outside it has to be inside. i have seen several 5.4s leak through the intake gaskets.
