I too am an amatuer at body work and have been reading up on it quite a bit. This site and the great people have been an inspiration and have boosted my confidence levels tremendously.
Like the others have said, you give us hackers some hope. Now if I could just get up the courage to start!! Once that first panel comes off it's hard to go back.
If you look at the fender before I started, it was pretty mangled. That helped, cause I figured that it really wasn't usable as it was, so if I messed it up, it wouldn't be a big deal. I've read a lot of stuff that says you 'can' make it worse if you don't know what you're doing, but I figured I had nothing to lose by trying. It will look good at 20 feet.
Pretty work Steve. You must catch on fast,'cause that looks good to me. I'm new at bodywork myself. and my truck is getting sheet metal panels welded in now to replace rusty ones. I hope I do half as well as you are doing. Keep up the great work.

Looks real good. Let me know when you want me to bring the used rear fender I have to the cruise so you can further perfect your skills.. What are friends for.

Wait a minute...You have a whole new front end...new doors...and I thought you had a new rear fender with a gas door. All that is left is the cab..bed sides, tailgate, and the other rear fender.

Is that the fender that needs work?
Brian you are right I have everything new(repops) but running boards rear fenders and a bed. My passenger side fender will need a little work when the cash flow allows me to get her painted. I thought I would let Steve do some perfecting of his new skills. Another buddy of mine installed a fuel door in a used driver side fender I have. Debating whether I like the install job or not. Thought about getting some 2nd's(blems) rear fenders from Carpenter for $200 a piece. Glad to hear from you hope all is good/manageable with your health.
So...not a lot of work needed before paint. I thought you should be fairly close.
I was not aware they sold 2nds. Wish I had known that a moth ago. I have been working on a really bad front fender for a while now. Several patch panels and a lot of beating.
If Steve wants to practice some more...my truck came from over there and could use a lot of work. LOL
Oh well...I have the fender in epoxy primer now...I have the filler and supplies to continue, just too hot outside right now for me.
Jim told me he thought there was some filler in that fender when he got it. He showed me the places where he had put it in. He was right...big time about that fender! In one area it was about 1" thick. Most of the rest was under about 1/4" of filler. The front was filled with some sort of foam...which held water...which rusted....
