Body Mount Replacement

I want to replace the Body Mounts and I have found some threads on how to do this. In my first attempt, I started on the rear mount and did not remove the gas tank. I removed the bolt with little effort and fed another from the bottom. I then banged away with a drift pin and standard hammer. I ended up bending the bolt and was lucky to get it out. It was 90+ outside, so I popped a beer and called it a day.

I my next attempt, I will remove the gas tank as suggested to get a better angle. Given the lack of obvious rust overall on the truck, how much force do I need to apply to get the bottom washer out? I will try a 5LB hammer and a better grade bolt next time, but I do not want to damage the hardware. Burning off the old rubber mounts and using a sawzalll is not the way I want to go unless it is the only way. Any tips are most appreciated.

youre in for some serious work i think. i replaced the mounts on my 78, no rust on body; however, the top mounts were fused to the bottom mounts from vibration/rust. my solution: plasma cutter. i cut off the top of the mount and pushed it out. my HUGE sledge hammer and bolt did not work at all. nor did my air chisel. the sawzall just bounced around on the rubber. it was a helluva project until i busted out the plasma. honestly i dont know how anyone is going to do this without a torch or plasma. It is not a washer, it has a sleeve that slides into another sleeve, locking the top and bottom together. oh, and i got new hardware also.

You can get new hardware through Broncograveyard and it isn't cheap. I'd suggest getting urethane bushings instead of the OEM rubber.

The rubber mounts have steel inserts that squeeze together, then fuse with rust, so they will be tough to remove mostly.
+1 on the poly urethane bushings! Provided your mounts arent rusted out.

Mine WERE rusted up, and it took a torch and an air chisle AND a big ol hammer. I bought the compleate mounting kit from LMC. Oh, and if the frame pads are rusty like mine were, I cut out the rust where the rubber sat, and fabbed up plates to weld to the tops of the frame pads so the bushings would be centered. I've had to do this to a 150 and a bronco so far. Good luck

I replaced my cab bushings during my frame-off restoration of my 77 F150 and it was a real PITA even with the cab and gas tank removed. I put an impact wrench and socket on the lower nut of the bushing retainer and also banged on it from the top w/ a BFH and I finally got them out and I was able to save the hardware. I ended up replacing the from metal cab mounts with some good used one's, since mine were completely rusted through. The rust was the only thing keeping the bushings in place. That rust hole looks just like the two front mounts on my truck. Made a plate to repair both of them.

Funny part is that the driver's side felt pretty solid until I took the bolt out and found what was underneath. Rust had eaten the cab mount, but the hardware was still pretty solid. Took the torch, a chisel, heavy hammer and the impact to finally break it all loose.
