I'm buying a 6" skyjacker lift kit soon for my '79 f350 and im wondering how i can calculate my total lift. Nevada state law says i can only go 2' high from the bottom of the bumper.
24 inch bemper heigth?
That seems a little low to me. Heak a stock 4x4 SD truck would be illegal if this were the case.
Sure that is accurate?
Take a measurement of your truck now, and add the amount of lift, and the amount for the larger tires that you will be installing. Keep in mind that the overall tire diameter will only net half of the amount total diameter with regards to overall lift.;
Lift Laws i looked at a different site than this, same info tho. Hmm i wonder if anybody really knows about this? i see lifted trucks and they never get pulled over... i just dont want the ticket for having a giant truck http://www.tailgaters.ca/images/2006...2006%20078.jpg (this pic) I guess ill just run it and see what happens
I'm sure it's one of those things that law enforcement over look unless trucks are ungodly over lifted and causing trouble. But, I agree that 2' seems awfully low considering the bumper height on my highboy with pretty much stock height is probably over that.
Some states actually go off of headlight height instead. That aside, bumpers include any factory attachments, i.e. air dams. My Super Duty's bumper (bottom) was way lower than 24", much less adding the other 3" worth of airdam. As a matter of fact, just by thinking about it, it seems that the bottom of the bumper was slightly higher with each regressive generation of truck body going back in time. I think they all (every brand) used to sit higher in the old days than now - at least the bottom of the bumper.
Now the issue of enforcement is a different story. Some states only pick up on it during safety inspection, others actively enforce it with police activity. It probably even breaks down further to a municipality thing - some towns have better things to concentrate their resources on than tall truck policing. It probably even extends to an individual officer's bad-day/good-day thing!
Whle I am not entirely convinced that 6 inches is going to create a "giant truck", it does appear that the bumper requirement is going to be a bit of a hassle.
It says nothing about requireing OEM bumpers like some states do, so some mods could be made to accomodate the bumper requirement.
That pic is of a California truck, and Ca. laws are different than the laws in Nevada, and each state varies by a fair amount.
I have seen some pretty large trucks rolling around the Nevada area, and with a 6 inch lift, I doubt you are going to attract a bunch of attention.
There is a lot to be said about a truck that makes an attempt at being road compliant. Drive reasonable, install some mud flaps. A clean truck, and a truck with some goddies that help it look like you are making a reasonable attempt at keeping it legal might just get the courtesy of being left alone.
turns out i was a 1978 f150 this gives me more options for a higher lift! (im 17 and big trucks kick *** what do you expect lol) $500 for the truck! sweet deal man.
-i'll turn back to you guys when i need help picking whats right for my truck. thanks guys!
