I was given a LESTEC 120 amp-dual isolated alternator--is says it is marine certified on the case--which means no sparks I would think ---anyway it is supposed to have been rebuilt and far superior to the std ford alternator---I also have a regulator with 4-wires----from left to right they read----I or L like a 1 , A , S , F----Question , can I wire in this alt. with the existing ford regulator or do I have to use the supplied regulator-----and how do I interface the new regulator to the existing wiring---the trk is a 77 f250 , 4x4 , with a 400---and standard ford alternator-----I don't want to experiment with this situation cause this calls for expertise that I don't have!!!!thanks , fd
I should add here that the S & F terminals are hooked to a two wire plug that plugs into the back of the alternator------and the A terminal has a small adjustable switch\capacitor that requires a small screwdriver to adjust for whatever purpose!!!! thanks , fd

I have no earthly idea how to wire up our up your alternator, but that little capacitor is a noise suppression cap for the electrical system. If you have ever heard someones stereo buzz when the engine was revved than you know what I mean by electrical system noise. This thread [link:www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/electrical/826.html|Voltage Regulator Wiring] might be of some help.

Thanks russell--I appreciate your help.........I think this dual output alternator will be just alittle different than a regulator ford setup----but I'm going to understand what i have before i give it the smoke test---Maybe sparky or somebody who understands these things will reveal some of his expertise on how to hook this thing up---if i'm lucky , thanks again for your help , fd
I am not familiar with the Lestec but my guess would be that you should use the regulator that came with it. The screwdriver adj sounds like it is for adjusting the output voltage. The 2 wire connector would be for the field winding. Two outputs would appear to be separate stator windings and two different sets of diodes. I would contact the mfg. for hook up instructions. I am working on a mil surplus 28v 100 amp alternator. I have to build a voltage regulator. I spin it and connect a variable power supply to the field winding to find out what voltage I need to get the output I want. I once put a Ford alternator in a Datsun because I refused to pay $180 for a replacement.

Well I have no experience with a Lestec..... but if you can mount it on the engine and I can find a wiring diagram for it.....it will work
Now off to do a little surfing for a Lestec wiring diagram
I'm so dumb ---the correct spelling-----is LESTEK , INC---Ft.worth , tx-----it is a Dual isolated output----this maybe the model number---2H21-----14 volt negative--------it has 2 small capacitors and beside each one it says---BAT 1 , BAT 2 , etc , thanks for your help--sparky , sandy kuteman
Well I did some checking and....it is a dual output alternator...meaning it will charge two batteries at the same time as well as keep them isolated from each other. Would be great for the guys with dual batteries.
Marine can mean no sparks...but I think it has more to do with being sealed, read water tight salt-resistant etc etc.
I found a manual for a similar alternator so contact me off list and I will email it to you.

Hello Sparky I have the same lestek alternator in my country coach rv, if you have a manual for it I would REALLY appreciate a copy. Thanks Tom
