Bench To Bucket Seats???

OK,
Just reiceved my NPD Catalog. Getting ready to start on the truck and need some help...

1. Previous owner removed column shift and made it a floor shift with bench seats!!! Anyway wheres the best place to look for bucket seats? New trucks, Old trucks? Models? Junkyards? New? Sources?

2. Steering column. Since he decided to remove the shifter from the column and to the floor I am going to leave it that way and buy a Hurst Indy 3 speed shifter. Anyway where can I buy replacement columns? I am looking for one with out the shifter and with everything else....?

Thanks,
Tyler

1967/72 F100/350's could be ordered with bucket seats. The type used was the exact same thing as 1965/70 Mustangs & 1967/70 Cougars used.

The seat tracks used on the trucks were also the same as Mustang/Cougar (C5ZZ-6561704-F & C5ZZ-6561705-F).

The problem with using these seats is, there were four special brackets ** used (2 per side) that bolted between the floor and the seat tracks to raise the seats up and level them off, because the trucks floor pan slopes downward.

Dunno if anyone is reproducing the brackets. The brackets used on 1966/77 Bronco's (same seats) are different.

** Brackets: C7TZ8151757-A .. Right outer / C7TZ-8161757-B .. L/inner // C7TZ-8161757-C .. L/outer / C7TZ-8161757-D .. R/inner

ok seats....what do you want? do you want stock bucket seats? then look at old broncos (or mustangs as bill said, but they looked like bronco seats to me, as the bronco had low backs and mustangs had higher backs, ford trucks had lower back seats, well mine did at lest). other wise it doesnt really matter what you get because you will have to build custom mounts for them...unless you are able to find OEM Ford bucket seat mounts, then you can put in dodge neon seats with a little bit of work(thats what i did, but my truck had bucket seats stock) now if you just want to put in a different bench you can get one from a ford truck up to like 86 or something like that. but if you are giong to get buckets and build your own brakets then just find something that you really like to sit in......

if you do not want to put the shifter back in the column (i would put my vote for putting it back but hey its your truck) then try to find a standard trans truck and take that column, it will have every thing you need but with no shifter part to it, and will bolt right up (i would think i have never done it but it should work) for that option i would go to some pick and pull junkyards. or if you want to go with something a little more modern "you did it" or something like that makes very nice columns but are more $.

hope this helped out some.

grr you bill you got in there before me!

Thanks for all the help on seats... I am going to fabricate mounts for them! I did happen to run across 5-6 broncos so no problem with seats!

You can get a nice ididit steering column in plain steel ( you paint it) with tilt and turn signals only for about $265 on ebay. Just type in "ford tilt steering column"

I put corbeu seats in my truck, they have a bracket that bolts in the stock location. If I was going to fabricate bracket I would make it look like theirs. They used two pices of 1 1/4 inch square tube running across the cab to level things off and get a good place to mount seat bracket. then they took some brackets down to the stock seat holes. I think there is a pic in my gallery.

Before you replace your column you will want to take a look at your front cab
mounts, they may be rusty, most of time when past owners installed a floor
shifter and they have a bad column the bad front cab mounts helped ruin it!

P.S. there is a tech article in classic trucks magazine . com For installing the low back mustang seats in a bumpside truck!

i have '02 escort buckets in my truck. i used two pieces of 1/8 steel plate and some spacers to level out the floor and simply bolted the seats, using the brackets that came with them, to the steel plate. i won't win any awards for style but it's functional, safe and it didn't require any welding ( which wasgreat since i can't weld )
