I hope you are right because my 94 sounds just like his. At first I thought it was just a diesel thing until I noticed the 96 we have at work was much quieter than my 94.

(6.0 excluded) maybe that is me idk. but it will stay stock.
Listen son, Iam 42 years old and have spent many many years working with engineers and trust me when I tell you that some of them are nothing more then well educated idiots. When it come to the PSD they did a pretty good job on 95% of there design but they really blew it when it came to things like the air box. To prove this point you might want to ask yourself why they did a recall on the air box and redesigned it. If you are going to use the stock air box you might want to at least make sure you use the updated one and not the recalled one. Not looking to dis you but with age comes wisdom so trust me on this one.

you have a weak injector, you can even hear it right as you go to rev it up, she's not smooth at all. then after your wot run and return to idle its easy to hear the miss and even see the motor rocking. the "knock" is the diesel cackle from the weak cylinder.

as for not modifying it... ford actual has a tsb out for the orange intake boot at your turbo and crankcase vent to be replaced due to dirt ingestion adn sucking closed under load, and they even recalled your stock airbox. i take no offense to your wishes to leave the truck alone but in this case you really need to replace your intake system wit the updated parts. and the stock airbox itself is a proven disaster waiting to happen. if you need proof i can get pictures for you or even better just take your intake duct off and stick your hand inside your pipe and see how black it comes out. the decision to modify is always in your hands but when that turbo impeller lets go its your wallet that has to take the punch for an 1100 dollar turbo and whatever else that impeller wheel takes with it............

besides, you dont have to spend a fortune on an intake system, its easy to put together the same size tubing as stock but in a sealed, dirt free configuration. for under 50 bucks you can really prolong your turbo and cylinder wall life.

sams6.9, Normally I would agree with you but
Is duct tape part of the original design?

You are getting good advice...and it's free,
not replacing your intake system will be costly...

i'm gonna have to agree with everyone else on this.. the stock airbox is pitiful... there are a couple things i would replace on these trucks if you were looking for just longevity.... i'd replace the exhaust, intake, and transmission with a built one, with that the truck will be more reliable then before and WILL last forever...

Even the gasser stock airboxes are total trash. They are just pieces of junk.

Do your truck a favor and give it a chance to breath with a good air mod.
You'll save your turbo some greif, and your wallet.

Do you know if the 96 valve covers will fit my 94.5?

ok first off i want to say i am sorry about my rant on keeping stuff stock. i was pissed at my 86 6.9 that threw a fit. i was stuck 4 hours from the house cuz of a freakin 2 inch piece of fuel line with a friend of mines dad telling me what i had done wrong to keep this truck on the road (bad time to reply to a post when a rig is down). i got to thinkin about the air box mod and looked in my intake and took the small orange hoses off of the intakes and they were black as can be on the inside mostly blow by oil but gritty. so i am going to do this asap. thanks sam
