First Run - Flathead

I have seen people run their flatheads (youtube) for 5 minutes or so without a cooling system. Is this a bad thing to do or can you do it for short periods of time.

I personally won't do it. My machinist friend told me hot spots can develop on the cylinder walls in seconds. Why risk a new and expensive engine? How much harder is it to hook up the rad? At least fill the motor with water.......JMO
