Hey all, I finished my glow plug and injector job today. I wish I could say it wasn't to bad (it really wasn't) except I dont think it's quite right. After putting it all back together I took it out. It didn't start when I went to fire it up so I figured the fuel needed priming or the oil hadn't hit the injectors yet. I gave a quick shot of either and it fired up. All sounded well. I took it out and at first it smoked black smoke heavily and had very little power. This cleared up pretty quickly ansd seemed to run pretty good. Went home and shut it off. Went to restart it and I get a fast spin for about 5 or 6 seconds before it finally fires up. It also seems to be runnning a bit rough at idle. Before I did the glow plugs and injector o rings it wouldnt fire at all if it sat over night without a shot of either but it would fire right up after running for a while. Anyone have any things I should check on it tommorrow?
You need to drive it more. Its still working out the air in the HPOP system. The long crank is perfectly normal until you put 20-50 miles on the truck.

ether is only potentially bad if the glow plugs are in top order and the ether ignites at the wrong time in the combustion chamber. a trained professional can spray ether into a powerstroke(or any glow plugged motor) without damage.
Thanks a bunch to all for the help. Got the needed miles in today and it's running like a champ again and starting perfectly. You all dont know how much I appreciate all the help. I know when I checked with the shop about doing just the glow plugs they wanted $1800. That doesn't include doing the injector o rings which I'm sure they would have been happy to double charge the labor even though they are allready in there. With you guy's help I did the entire glow plug system and the injector O rings for just under $600. That included all the glow plug parts, o rings, new oil, 6637 filter and fuel filter. (everything) Not to mention the new experience I just learned. Thanks again guys. Oh yeah, now I can hopefully "JUST SAY NO TO ETHER"
