Do I have to upgrade or should I say down grade my ignition...i ripped out the efi...put on an old edelbrock...now do i need to change distributor....I also trashed the AOD for a C6 and a NP205.....any help??? anybody got one for sale/????
I would venture to say yes you would need to swap out the ignition to a pre EFI setup. The EFI computer needs a lot of info from all of the sensors you removed. Also not having the aod will generate a check engine light on its own. Try an MSD ready to run distributor, or scavange some parts from the bone yard. BTW what is the year/model of your truck? Just my $.02. Not necessarily the right info, but I think its correct. Later.
It is an 86 F150...it came with a 302, AOD and NP208. I put in an 86 Lincoln 302 with an edelbrock intake and 600 carb, It now also sports an 81 C^ and a Np205 transfer case...the truck is being built SOLID! I knew it was time to address ignition....can I junk yard search and find a distributor with vaccuum advance?? shouldn't anything like that work?? of course i would have to find duraspark shizzit and cut over to new..... thanks for any additional help....
Theoretically yes it should. My dad and I swapped a 300 to a 302 in his 85. We just found a "donor" at the junk yard and swapped it all in. We used the old dura spark setup. Worked great. Try to get everything at once, distributor and module, and wiring. Should be real easy.
Yes you will at least have to swap distributors, the EFI will have a hall effect dist. You need a points type dist. I am going the other way but will help you any way I can, let me know.

Yep points. Also you will have to change to vacuum advance with the distributor. The EFI used the computer to advance and retard timing. The EEC IV also controls cold starts, you will need to put some other choke system on it to if you live any were it gets cold.
Good luck
