I am fast approaching the end of my rework of a '90 EFI 460 for my '89 F-250 4X4 C6 transmission and am starting to worry if I have built beyond the limits of what my speed density ECM can do for the new engine.
The new engine is a .040 overbore with TRW flat top pistons, stage 2 ported heads, MTF towing cam (204/214 @ .050), Borla headers with true dual exhaust with X pipe and high perf mufflers (no catalytic, air pump, or EGR), BBK twin 65 MM throttle body, and K&N air filter. I am estimating a 10:1 compression ratio and around 375-400 HP. I suspect I will need to replace the 24# injectors with 30 pounders.
I'll be hooking it up to a '96 E4OD using a TCS Baummantor box.
Have I exceeded my Speed Density ECM? I am planning on moving to MAF but would like to get it up and running on the existing ECM if possible (I really don't want compound initial start up issues with the MAF conversion if I can avoid it.)
Any advice would be appreciated on the speed density ECM, injector sizing, compression, or horse power estimate.
cant help much but i would feel bad if i didnt tell you it sounds awsome and i wished i could do that . The thing that would make me think it would work is that if you can supercharge a speed density 460 and not have any problems you should be fine. Also did you think of bigger fuel pumps and/or a fuel pressure regulator?
I was thinking to get new ones because if i remember right a guy clamed a night and day difference and his motor wasnt as modded as this guys, i think they kind of just cram in fuel, but your right i think the stock ones should work fine.
How did your engine turn out? Does it run ok or did you end up having to install the MAF system? Just wanted to check because I am thinking of doing exactly what you mention here.....
Thanks for asking, but it is still a work in progress. I have the block and all of the ancillary parts together. Waiting on the head work to be completed before I can drop it in.
I am currently replacing the dual 51 MM throttle body with a dual 65 MM BBK from an 02 Lightning.. I have pretty much decided to go MAF on start up. I will need to add 8 wires for the injectors, 2 for the MAF sensor and reposition a few others. If I run into problems I'll swap back to speed density pretty quick just to get it up and running.
I'm figuring about another month before I hit the starter on the new rig.
Been tryin to do it on a budget, so I'm having the stock heads reworked. If you go with after market heads, they are set up for carbs...match the older 460 intakes/exhaust. So, after market heads mean custom intakes, fuel rails, throttle bodies, etc for EFI. Big bucks. I'm not planning on NHRA championship runs, just a cool daily driver that should pull the front porch off of the house.

I was thinking of doing the same thing on my 97 factory MAS AIR 460 from Cali. Do you have the new throttle body bolted up yet? What mods did you have to do if any? T
Thanks for any help
