Brake line?

Hi all,

I have a 2000 F250 Super Duty 5.4L and the other day I blew a rear brake line. Does anyone know the length for the rear brake line, I know that its a 1/4" thick but every parts store I go to only carry a 60" line and that looks like it is going to be too small. My truck is a regular cab longbed, any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
Gil

I think it's a good time to upgrade the braided SS brake lines. Which line did you blow? A steel line that goes across the axle or a rubber one?

It was the steel line that runs along the frame rail.

Yep, that's got to be a long one, if you don't get a custom fitted one, you will need two lines, a coupler and a flair tool. If you have a napa or a heavy truck parts store, they might carry longer lengths of steel tube.

Well I already have one line, maybe I will be able to find another line that when joined together it about the same as the one I pulled out. Thanks for the info ReAX.

Same line went on my truck last year. I think it was like 100 inches when all said and done.

If you have a tubing cutter a tubing bender and a flare kit you can purchase bulk line in 25' roll and make the brake line in one piece.

On my '03 the brake line is painted in the engine compartment and untreated as soon as it exits just behind the left front wheel. You can guess where it went bad. Needless to say the new line was painted before it was installed.
