cluster problems on a 2000 ranger
You may have two, or three separate problems, but we'll need more info to know for shure.
Did these two problems come about suddenly, at the same time, after some event, or separately over time????
The Rangers oil pressure meter is not much more than an idiot gauge, as it's designed to read mid scale when we have about 7 psi oil pressure.
So with your gauge pegged at full scale, maybe suspect a short circuit on the wire going to the oil pressure sending unit, or the sending unit itself, which is on the engine.
The speed-o is not cable operated, but is electonic & uses signals from the rear ABS speed sensor, located atop the front center portion of the rear differential.
So if you aren't having other electical problems, maybe suspect the rear ABS speed sensor, or it's wiring to the speed-o.
If your having other electrical gremlins with other things, then maybe the instrument cluster is being affected by that, so we need more background info on your ride.
Just some thoughts to help us get started on your trouble shoot.
Your 2000 Ranger is OBD-2, so it should have 3 digit PXXX codes, a two digit code like the 19, is for older OBD-1 vehicles, so I'm not clear at this point just what your computer is trying to tell us hurts.
Most auto parts stores will scan the computer at no cost & can clear any codes, but if you haven't fixed the problem, it'll return.
You can also erase the code by removing the B- battery cable, or pulling the computers power fuse, for 20 minutes or so.
Seeing as how the vehicle has been wrecked & repaired/salvaged, who knows what kind of electrical or mechanical trauma it's been through, so it'll kinda complicate your trouble shoot imo, as you'll have to include all kinds of other possibilities that wouldn't normally apply to a well maintained, non accident vehicle.
Right now it's probally easier for you to just disconnect the lead at the oil pressure sending unit & see if the oil pressure gauge will stop slamming full scale. If so, then suspect the sending unit.
If not, suspect the wire is shorted, or the gauge or instrument cluster is bad.
I believe I've read that a Ranger cluster with tach is a plug & play, but I'm not sure about which Explorer model cluster your referring too.
for the pressure sending unit where exactly is that on the engine? for the cluster with tach what is truck is compatible on mine? thanks again..

I'm a 4.0L guy, so I don't remember exactly which side of the engine a 3.0L's OP sending unit is, but it's likely close to the oil filter. Try a site search for 3.0L oil pressure sendng unit, I know this has been discussed in the past 12 months.
Or maybe try AutoZones parts locator.
Or maybe one of the 3.0L guys will chime in.
Let us know what you find.
