when i bought it, the a/c was missing the belt. we replaced it and the compressor kicks on and i put some freon in it until the meter went to the full mark on the can. but there is still no cold air blowing out. what else do i need to do to get the cold a/c blowing? thanks
There is probably a clog in the A/C system not letting the freon do what it does so well. A clogged orifice tube would do this, if yours is equipped with one.
First off, forget that gauge that comes with the recharge kit. It is junk.
You might still need more refrigerant... OR you might need less (overcharging will cause warm air out of the vents as easily as undercharging will).
You really need to have the system evacuated and recharged with the proper amount of refrigerant.
Also there's no way to be sure if it is clogged or whatnot without both the high AND low side pressures. For this you need a professional A/C Gauge set.
You can rent the gauges at auto zone, only if the truck has been converted to r134. IF not the fittings are different and require different gauges. MY advice to you is rent the gauges and the vacuum and buy the 134 conversion kit. Take off the compressor and make sure its compressing okay. If it is then clean out all the lines / evaporator with paint thinner and lots lots of clean compressed air. recharge and bingo cold air. SOunds harder then it is post back if you need more details. I did this to my 92 ranger and it blows ice cold.
