I have a 1992 F 150 w/302 2 wheel dr. My problem is when I pull the head light switch on the head light are dim. The head light indicator in the dash is on. The dimmer switch arm is pulled back in the low beam spot the head lights are on bight. In the high beam spot the lights are dim. Do anyone have a cue on what is going on..
1. clean the glass
2. check for corrosion as SoCalDesert suggested
3. do the relay headlight mod. these yr models are notorious for not getting the 12volts at the lights. they usually get 8-10 volts instead. you can wire them so they recieve the entire 12 volts directly from the battery and use relays so they power on/off just like normal
parts you'll need:
buy 2 replacement light sockets from parts store (about $8 each)
buy 4 relays
buy 4 inline fuses
buy a few of those inline wire splicers
to connect:
run a hot wire directly from the battery to the relay power in terminal. make sure to wire in a fuse to protect the battery from shorts (1 for each headlight).
run a wire from the relay on/off terminal to the low beam power wire on the old light socket (relay switching power)
run a wire from the relay power out terminal to the new light socket
ground the new light socket
repeat for the high beam
tape/seal off the OEM light socket to protect from moisture
when you turn on your lights, the power to the low beam wire will switch the relay to send power to the new headlight socket. this enables full battery voltage to go straight to the headlights. same thing happens when you turn on your highbeams
this mod makes a huge difference. and it's a nice safe mod. if it doesn't work to your liking, you can remove it without any damage to your OEM lights
