That's correct.
I would think a Magnetic Mount on the roof would be okay.
Make sure the *load* of the antenna is above the ground plane.

A 102 " whip is okay.Make sure you have a tie-down clip for the antenna for allowing you to get into parkades.

Just remember the strongest signal goes the longest part of the ground plane.
If the whip is mounted on the back ,the best signal goes out the front & vice-versa.

Talking distance is usually *LINE OF SIGHT*, 15-18 miles unless you're in the mountains or abnormal conditions.

Well, if anything i'd mount two whips in the rear stake pockets, not the ones behind the cab. I think this looks the best unless you have good mirrors. The wires can even go neatly down the hole beside the stake pocket. I wouldn't care if only one antenna works, the others gotta be there for symmetry. I'm not interested in the best cd system out there either. Where have you guys mounted the Radio in ur cabs?

Anybody have a problem with their CB and engine noise on their F-150? I am using a Cobra 29 with a Wilson 1000 magnetic mount antenna. I have tried several wiring options, cig lighter, direct to fuse block on + and to a ground with the - lead, but still get a high pitched noise with the engine running. I have tried several noise chokes on the power leads but still have the noise.

HELP! Anybody else have this problem? Any ideas on the solution.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I could be wrong but it could be the kind of spark plugs you are using. I know that with the helmet comunicators on my snowmobiles, you need to have a certain kind of plug.

A popping sound that changes with the rpm of the motor is ignition pop.

A high pitched whine is from the Charging circuit, namely the alternator.

Think I found the answer to my problem on Wilson Antenna's web site, although, what a Pain in the A_S!

4. Vehicles with electric fuel pumps in gas tank
Although this is not aimed at any specific auto, primarily it is noticed with the Ford and Toyota autos, with the electric fuel pump located inside the gasoline tank. The symptoms are: a noise (generally a whine or whistle) is very noticeable on the radio when the ignition is first turned on, stopping after a few seconds. It returns when the auto is started and continues as long as the engine is running. The cure: install a pair of RF filters, one on each of the leads (positive and negative) coming out of the fuel pump. CAUTION: Be sure to check the vehicle maintenance manual to get the correct wires, and not the fuel level indicator wires. We have found the best available filter for this is the LM-20RF, from MTI, in Signal Hill, California, (800) 772-0796. They manufacture a wide array of filters to solve radio interference problems.

Anybody know which wires are the power wires on the fuel pump of a 2001 F-150 Super Crew with a 5.4L? What a pain in the A_S!

Thanks!

A whine is from the charging system.
Noise is solved by installing a noise choke available at The Shack.

A popping noise is from the Ignition system.
This noise can be removed by a special filter/choke on the ignition system at the coil available at The Shack.

I'm 19 years old, and have been into C.B.'s and FORDS since I was 7. As someone said earlier, having two live antennas is useless, but two sometimes looks better than one..And he was right, run one live antenna, and the other as a dummy. Co-phase coax is a pain to run on a pickup anyway...lol.. I have a uniden PC68XL, peaked and tuned. I mounted it to my headliner angled slightly toward the driver's side. I ran my coax under the trim to the holes in the bottom of my cab, and up to the bed rail corner, drivers side. Drilled two holes, mounted bracket (bed is a good ground) and put on a cheap fiberglass whip. Works pretty darn good. I've talked up to 45 miles on the setup. BUT, nothing is ever good enough, right? Anyone know where I can get a mobile linear? I've been lookin for one for a long time!

One of the best mounting locations for that antenna is near the center of that cab roof. Some people use a good mag mount if they don't want to drill a 3/4" hole and install a nmo mount. Me personally i don't have the cb antenna mounted there because i have others in that location. for the cb antenna I use a 102' stainless whip mounted on the right rear bumper with antenna specialist hardware but radio shack has everything you need also. Just use the best quality coax and connectors. I might note that i don't experience any of the fuel pump whine or ignition noises. As far as cb i wouldn't go any further and waste my money as far as amps. there is so much out there in the communcations area that 45 miles is just a stones throw when we are speaking world wide legally. Just explore sites such as ARRL and QRZ.com and learn and enjoy
Have a Good Day
