I am stumped as what to do next. I was sitting at a drive thru window when it tried to stall. I managed to get it to the parking lot before it completely died. When I tried to restart, I had no electrical power. No lights, no radio, no power to starter. I wanted 20 minutes for the tow truck when I attempted to start it. It started right up but only ran for about 2 minutes before doiing the same thing, losing all electrical power to accessories while spitting and sputtering. Towed home and it would not start. I waited for about 30 minutes and I turned the key, speedo went to max, tach went to max and both went back to 0. Engine started, I moved car to where it now sits. I let it idle until it tried to die. All gauges went to nothing and no electrical power while still sputtering. I could not move the tranny from park or anything else. What should I be checking? Seems crazy, acts like it is running out of gas but it has 1/2 tank.
If its the alternator, shouldn't the battery warning light on the dash have come on well before the car died? My battery light came on a few weeks ago and I was able to drive it 90 miles before I got home.
Again, check the battery cables and the cable connections. No matter how 'good' they look check them. Complete loss of power stems from a problem with the battery and it's connection to the electrical system.

If rotor wiring is damaged, or brushes weared out, the light may not come on. Anyways, the symptoms looks like dead alternator - the truck starts on battery, works for a while, then battery gets exhausted and truck dies. I had the same issue on 12 year old BMW.

It's always good to check battery connections. However, it wouldn't help in this particular case. With bad battery connection, the truck will not start, but it will keep running when jump started. Here we see exactly opposite case.
ok, fine. It's not my problem, I was trying to help. I always diagnose from the electrical source and move forward from there. 45yrs of experience in the Electrical trade sometimes gets in the way......
