i'm trying to get to the bulbs in my high mount brake light on a 95 ford explorer. the lens has a lip that goes under a strip of trim on the exterior so i can't just pop it out. i've removed the vinyl trim on the inside removed the little power box that says do not remove, and this exposes three bolts and nuts that i removed the nuts on and the assembly gets a tiny bit looser, then i removed the rear window and saw that that exterior trim looks like it has 5 or 6 rivets on the bottom edge. so i can't figure out how to get to the bulbs to replace them. any help would be great
I have replaced them in your vehicle before, but, I can't remember how, its been too long. Could you please post a picture of the outside. I sort of remember having to pry it up by the botttom, but, I am not sure.
Hi . This is somethink I pulled from a service book I had laying around. Sounds like you can not replace any bulbs only compete lamp. May be worth a call to a Ford parts department and ask them to look up a bulb and see what they say. I am pretty sure they will tell you that you need the complete 3rd brake lamp. I would keep posting for a while. Mabye someone has worked out a way to replace with say LED's or other small low heat bulbs. I know I would try the custom route
myself before buying a complete lamp assm. Good Luck. This is what my book says.
CAUTION: The ballast and neon lamp are serviced as separate assemblies. Do not attempt to disassemble the ballast or lamp.
