Lately I have been thinking that my '82 inline six needed an overhaul as the odometer read almost 350K, but yesterday I drove it to town and back (about 25-30 miles) and now it says 350009. Im not sure exactly what it was before, but it had a couple hundred to go.
Any ideas about what could possibly cause this?, the truck has the original trans and axle gear ratios and the tires are maybe 1 inch bigger than stock, if not the same.
huh? the bigger tires would make the odometer roll over slower because the rear end is making less rotations due to the larger tire. but no telling thats wierd if its got the original drive train.
I'm running one size bigger tires than stock on my truck. P225-75-R-15, stock tires are P215-75-R-15, on my truck, and it makes the odometer 1/10 of a mile off every mile. That's 1 mile off for every 10 miles. If the odometer is truning faster, then it could be the wrong speedometer gear was put in, or the speedometer/odometer head is worn out... Is the speedometer off the same as the odometer? Telling you that you are going faster than you actually are?
The speedo is actually a little slow, I just read another post that mentioned that the last digit on the odometer(the white one) was really 1/10ths of a mile. I always thought it was the 1s because of all these people saying that their truck has 150 or 200K, but how would they know if it can only go to 99K?
