I have a 95 ford ranger 4cyl 5spd. The abs is on and has been on since Ive owned and the odometer and the trip odometer aint working. If i hit a bump or spin the tires the trip odometer will work for 7 or so miles. What could be causing the odometer not to work?
More than likely the gear on the motor that turns the numbers has broken on the odometer. It happened to mine and I just put in a used cluster. It was easier.
^ + 1 on the differential mounted ABS speed sensor, as its output is used for the speed-o, ABS, auto tranny & cruise control, so if you have any of those & they also are acting out, the speed sensor belongs on your suspect list.
Most autoparts stores will scan the computer for trouble codes at no cost, so post all code Numbers found.
If its the speed sensor, its mounted atop the front center of the rear differential, one electrical connector, one 10mm bolt @ 25-29 ft/lbs torque & an "O" ring seal holding it in. (lube new one with oil before installing) A 30 min job to lift the vehicle on stands & change it out & put everything away, if your slow like me!!!! lol
