Some people buy quads, some buy sleds, heres my latest "toy" from Prince George. The first pic is me heading down the hill to mount robson, the second one is in jasper, and the third one is on the border from alberta to bc.
Got pulled into an inspection station in Hinton, and I thought, here goes. The guy inspected the whole truck, and he just about made me sit there to get air in two of my inside rear tires! He let me go as long asn I filled them up as soon as I got into town. That was the ONLY thing wrong with the truck, according to their inspection.
Kinda funny too, when I first pulled into the inspection station te guy asked me for a log book, and I told him (politely) that I didnt need one because the vehicle was in transit. He started to get cranky about it, telling me it was a commercial vehicle so i still needed one blah blah blah. I just asked him to go check it out, he came back and told me I was right. I thought I was gonna get a ticket for sure after that haha.
I figured out the fuel economy too, 8.8 miles to gallon was the average I got on the whole trip home, not bad at all for an old mechanical cummins! Too bad it smokes a little white during start up, and does have a very little bit of blow by. Ah well, what can I expect for 8 grand.
Morris, what kind of suspension do you have on your dump? This one has chalmers, and man oh man can it get bouncy! Thankfully it has a really good air seat, and I think the cab MIGHT be air ride, gonna check that later out today.
Thanks guys, yeah it was a steal, i got very lucky with it. The price for what it is, is exactly what I needed for a break. I should be able to use it for a couple years and sell it for what I got er for. Hopefully!
Looks like an awesome deal, passing an inspection is impressive and a great start!
My tandem has Rayco suspension and it`s not great either, I`m thinking air ride suspension is the way to go.
Im not familiar with rayco either. I did some research and for an off road dump truck chalmers is supposed to be pretty good, and air ride is supposed to not be good, but im not really taking mine offroad much.
Its a 1987. There was a few other trucks i was bidding on that were in teh early to mid 90's but they didnt look half as good as this one, and needed way more work, expensive stuff like tires, and the hoods and front fenders/bumpers were all beat up.
I was all pumped to get this 1991 w/s, or this 94ish mack, but they were beat to hell and back.
The 91 went for 8500, the 94 went for 7500, and I got this one for 8000.
I gotta say too its sure different riding around with that chalmers suspension, im really used to air ride lol.

You`ll get used to that suspension in no time, after too many 14/16/18 hour days you won`t notice a thing....
Still for $8000 it sounds like a good deal.
Yeah Im impressed with the deal i got too. I think I got partly lucky, and i did TONS of looking around and waiting to find the right one.
I dont like the way your thinking is Morris, i was hoping for 4 hour days making 2 grand a day I know I know, time to wake up Preppy!
I think Im taking it in this week to get it inspected. I was gonna wait till my trailer is done, but since it doesnt have air brakes, only electric, it doesnt need an inspection, woot!
I also found out that since my business isnt yet corporated, its gonna be way easier to get plates, yesssss!!!
If your non corporated, then to get plates its just like plating a pickup truck. If your corporated, I cant remember all the differences, but there are a few that make it more of a pita.
Uhhh purdy, I'd sure love to do some mountain driving one day in a semi.... Furthest I've been is Cochrane.
I musta missed where you said the horsepower and speeds.....
Its got a 444 cummins in it, and a 15 speed. I wasnt thrilled about the 444 cummins, cause I have heard of lots of problems with them, but so far its been great on fuel (being mechanical and all) and with 444 horse, shes got some power.
Now the 15 speed im not crazy about, but it works. Its and eaton fuller and its shifts like new, but I hate not having splits in the upper gears. Also the splits on this one are backwards from what Im used too, instead of pushing the thumb lever back to get in the higher split, you push it forward.
Youd love mountain driving, but at first its a little weird. Some of those sharp corners seem to come pretty fast and there is zero ditch!
