I'm working on a cummins conversion in a 18'x20' covered carport in front of my (to packed to work in) garage. Parts are bleeding over to my wife's back patio area, she is not happy about it. but is being very understanding (for now)

I currently have a 24x24 garage for two F-1 trucks. I had to move the 48 out as I have barely enough room in there with my 49 partially disassembled. I have to do some of my work outside also weather permitting. I remember a time years ago when I did an automatic transmission change in my unpaved driveway because I had no garage. If you want it bad enough you will find a way...

mine is 24 x 25 with a disassembled '53 inside... unfortunately there is about 32x40 worth of stuff crammed in it.... plans for a 16x25 expansion are on the table and material is being gathered as we speak.. it's still gonna be too small

later

Garages are on the small side here in the UK. Mine is about 16 foot long buy 9 foot wide. When I first got the 56 I measured up getting it in there and decided it just wasn't going to work. If I took the bumbers off I could get it in, but I still had the issue of finding somewhere else for all of my non truck related stuff that was in there.

IO built my 4x4 out on the driveway and it was not something that I wanted to do again.

In the end I managed to get a corner in a workshop of someone that I know, to be able to work on it. Although I dont think Roger was expecting it to be there this long...

After building cars all my life without a garage I finally have a house with a 2 car garage. The spaces is consumed with tools, junk, and my 49 F1. My Road King also has a home in the garage. The big problem is that when I want to do any kind of work it takes some time doing the "crap shuffle" to make some room.

Mines in our horse barn. When I started working on the truck, I was standing or lying on dried horse poop. I was in hog heaven when I poured a 20x20 concrete slab in there. Keeps the rain off, but that's about it.

Mine is 28x40 and the 55 Panel is inside (after 20 years) but there's so much junk there's hardly room to move. I keep hoping someone comes up with a cure for 'Packratitis' !!

Got 2 T-Birds outside and need to make room for at least one inside before winter.

Jeff - I had a buddy years ago, who had the cure! He would put everything in boxes, seal them up, and write the date on them. Whenever he opened a box, looking for something, he'd cross out the old date, and write the new date, and seal it back up. The key to this, was when the date on a box was six months old, he'd throw it away. He WOULD NOT open the box!!! This got him down to a handful of boxes that he was into all the time, and got rid of the boxes he wasn't into. Worked very well for him. The key, though, is not opening the box before throwing it away...or it wouldn't get thrown away!

When I built my 28 X 40 shop, the wife got the two-car. Since the major curve in our drive won't allow a 2nd car (well, my Geo went in there), I built a 10 X 11 shop in there, for building planes. It now has all the front clip from the truck in there. Don't tell mama!!

Years ago, built a bunch of cars, in the driveway alongside the mobile home, with a 10 X 10 shed for all the tools. Did that for 6 years! Of course, you can DO that in southern California...

Talking Garage wows...

wellllllll.....1 1/2 car...about 16 1/2' X 20 1/2' from what I recall...

we just went thru measuring EVERYTHING in the yard & what-not for

the cement dudes the past couple days to get ready for the new driveway

side patio/party-area and slab out back for a shed...woo-hoo...that should

clear up some more room in the garage once we get yard tools, fire-pits,

show-blowers, and all that crap out of the way...PLUS the girl now gets

to set up her OWN little gardening command-center that I can't UN-organize

for her when stumblimg arounding looking for a tool I through across

the garage...

Currently my "shop" occupies a space a bout 8.5 X 11… inches. I still have yet to complete my house so I can start on my shop so my shop is just drawings and a wish list. ;-( My 59 F100 4X4 gets the carport and if I wanna work on it "on the weekends" I have to tow it to where I work. I envy your 24 X 18 and would LOVE to have even that.

WISE move, my man!! When I turned over the garage to my wife, it was with the stipulation she keeps the yard stuff there - she does all the yardwork. Mowers, tillers, aerators, etc, etc. But two Christmas' ago, I bought her a triple-stack rollaround tool box, with a good start on tools. She's since added to the tools, and she's pretty handy. Plus, she doesn't have to go through all my toolboxes to get a screwdriver, pliers, etc. Plus, the added advantage - when I upgrade my tools, she gets the old ones. So it's easier to convince her on the upgrade!!

I did learn a LONG time ago, about throwing the tools, though. First time you nail a $200 windshield with a wrench, you remember....

Doing a driveway build. Have a 2 car garage, but like many it is full of motorcycles, riding lawn mowers, puxh mowers, blowers, trimmers, tools and equipment. Could not get a truck in there with a running start. Fortunately, here in San Antonio, the weather is not much of a problem. Kinda hot in the summer but not too cold in the winter.
No chance of an expansion where I live. The back yard is full of swimming pool, patio, and storage sheds. Have plenty of room at my lake property but it is 120 miles away. If I moved my truck there I would get nothing done. My biggest problem is keeping the truck looking good enough to keep the neighbors and the city off my back while working on it. That's why a frame off is out of the question at this time. I'm too old and set in my ways to get a new house (mine has been paid off for 10 years) so I will just live with the driveway.

One of the selling points of my current house was the previous owner was a car enthusiast. He extended the garage which originally was a 2 car garage to a 4 car garage. He had all the goodies installed, like air lines, 220V outlets, and even a air ventilation system so you can paint inside the garage without having the fumes attack you and mess up everything around you. I love my garage and spend most of my time in the garage. I have two televisions, a fridge for the cool ones, a full stereo system along with all my tools and machinery. I have my truck, another classic car (66 Mustang) and my wife's car in the garage and still have plenty of room to work and fool around. The wife wants to move to a bigger home now. It's going to be difficult to leave my garage, now that everything is setup the way I always wanted a garage to be. Having room to park your truck and work on it is nice. If I do I move within the near future, I'm insisting on a minimum of 3 car garage and installing a hydraulic lift in the garage (somewhere?) so I don't have to destroy my knees and back from crawling around on the ground. LOL
