Welcome to FTE

Very little difference...same engine/trans/rear end/steering/suspension/brakes.

The major differences: 1966's have smog pumps, slightly different accelerator linkage, the '66 F100 4WD's are slightly different from 1965's.

However, the '66 Ford truck shop manual may only be a thin supplement to the 1965 manual (why it's prolly cheaper). Better make sure before you buy it.

The supplement only covers the few differences.

Whatever you say, kiddo.

Since I was born in LA, raised in LA, and spent 35 years as a partsman in LA, I know that the pumps were on CA vehicles, what the rest of the world used, I dunno.

Parts catalog doesn't say CA only on the smog pumps...and stuff that was CA emissions only is specified in other places in the catalog.

And....the shop manual does make mention of them, CA or not.

Speaking of Accelerator/Throttle Linkage on the '65-'66, that's a Mechanical Linkage & not that lame Cable system correct?
I'm unable to find my manuals to verify & I need to locate a Mechanical Linkage set-up, as I'm have sticking problems w/ the cable causing the engine to race while attempting to stop & the peddle tends to fall foreword as well, which is extremely irritating on both counts, could you help, please?

Lame cable setup used in 1965/66, and there's more than one cable, so if you go with another cable...you'll have to measure the old one.

Parts catalog illustration shows that '67/72 F100/350's didn't use a cable...it's all mechanical...all you have to do is find one of those.

You're welcome to swing by and take a look at the illustrations.

Smog pumps were installed after 1/1/1966 on all the cars, Econolines, Bronco's and F100/250's in CA.

No smog pump: Your truck was either assembled in 1965, or the system has been removed.
