barometric pressure sensor
Hello all,
I have a 90 ranger 2.3 that I am transplanting into my baja and couldn't find the barometric pressure sensor on the donar vehicle. Can anyone tell me where to find this little critter or is it built into the MAF sensor.
Thanks

A barometric pressure sensor is not going to have a vacuum line to it, A manifold absolute pressure sensor "MAP" will have the vacuum line. Both Are very like on the out side the diffrence is that the bar sensor has a nibble on the air input of the sensor, this is so you can't just slip a vacuum line on it. They both do the same thing for the EEC IV but in diffrent ways. Was this more then you needed to know?

EEC-IV doesn't use any barometric pressure sensor other than the MAP, and I don't think EEC-V/OBD-II does either. That's why I told him to look for the MAP.

I don't think a '90 Ranger has a MAF, but I'm not as familiar with the little trucks.

Steve83, ever check out 80's 302 throtle body injection systems? Some did earlier, it was the first genoration of these sensors, MAP is gen two and now MAF.

Just to get this right. A barometric pressure sensor, which the 2.3 dosen't have, is the thing that has three wires and another little nubbin on it. I have one on the harness for a Escort GT engine. When I pulled the harness for the 2.3 I couldn't find this unit. So Im assuming from the posts that it is built into the MAP sensor attatched to the engine.
So to make a long story short, there shouln't be any sensors that would be needed to run the engine that was not previously attached to the engine.
Thanks for all the help.

If the engine is fuel injected then it will have one or the other unless it has a mass air flow MAF sensor. This would be in the air stream after the air filter. But it will have one of the three.

It is fuel injected and does have what looks like a mass air flow sensor between the intake and air filter. I was looking at a turbo 2.3 and was told it has a VAM that looks similar to what is on my engine. It also has a separate barometric pressure sensor. This is why I thought I would need a BPS and just couldnt find it on the donar truck.
