I have used this before on some VINs and it has given incorrect info...I did a 76 350 and it came back saying it was something like a 64 or so truck...

when i typed in my vin it came up correct...

but the thing is, when people ask for a vin decode, they are usually also asking for the info on the data plate, which that vin decode thing, does not really do anything for it...

I have tried it and as stated, it sucks. Also I am in search of different parts that are not always represented by the vin number. The help received by members is much more informative and gives me an excuse to talk with more folks.

The site has a better free vin decoder than that, I suggest that you find and use the perfect one, that is never wrong.

It is known as Number Dummy and can be found all over the site.

I've prolly decoded 600 VIN's on FTE and haven't charged anyone any $$$ yet!

I use the appropriate parts catalog (when necessary)...not some POS bought off the shelf code book that's usually wrong.

FTE member camperspecial65 can also decode certain VIN's...I doubt he will charge anyone either.

Dan Edick: If you come to a SoCal Chapter GTG, I'll decode your VIN in person...and I won't need a parts catalog!
