Backup sensor stuck in off position

I have a 2001 Excursion which I have not driven for 3 weeks. I got in over the weekend and noticed that the backup sensor button is stuck in the off position. You can push it, but it does not change from the off position. Likewise the backup sensors are not working. Any suggestions on trouble shooting this?

You got that right. My X is used only for towing. It only leaves the yard with a trailer behind it 99.9% of the time. Guess I need to figure how to turn it off via fuse, relay etc. I get tired of pushing the little button everytime I put the tranny in reverse. My hitch even sets the thing off without the trailer.

I have the same problem as burg250. It's always off. I can press the button and the "off light" will go out but as soon as I put it in gear it turns off. It is a handy little gadget to have. I have a bunch of little kids and bicycles in the neighborhood and I really don't want to back over one. well... ok maybe a few...

I am trying to track down which of my sensors is bad and I thought I could unhook just one sensor. That gave me the same problem you have desribed. the connectors at least on my 02 do not just push and click. I had to remove the sensor to make the connections.

back up sensor

my 04 excursion has the same problem with the switch turning off when it is pushed. thought I'd get on the forum to see how to get it working. after reading a few of the forums, it came to mind that having it not working would be a good thing. here in Florida its usually a sign or should I say a sound of a BLUE HAIR backing up.....and if the problems with trailering......well OFF has a good sound to it now......

Mine started acting up and is now dead after going into the dealer for random repairs. They replaced the rear tilt out window motors and I wonder if they hit some wiring or something back there or if I dreally just have that bad luck lol.

Just disconnect one of the backup sensors. That should cause the system to fault and not work. The OFF lite should be on all the time indicating a fault or problem.

Mine stopped working and I bought a new control module. That was not the problem. So now I have to replace the sensors and since they are all different, that will be about $200 for all 4. With my X and small parking lots, I depended on it a lot.

I don't think they are all different.
The sensor slides out of the housing in the bumper.
Theoretically you can replace one at a time and check which one is bad. I tried this without much luck, maybe I have two or more that are bad.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
