This one is 3 megs.
You can thank neal for it. I found him over in the NBS forums handing our our secret information.
Well, thats not his link. i striped it from his link. But its the HPOP guide.
Thanks for the picture & info. now I know what this piece is called...Edge Filter
I can also describe which plug caused me the problem.
TJ
The problem started when the O-Ring on the edge filter plug failed. It failed because the reman co did a bad job on the reman job and stripped the threads on the plug. It loosened up and allowed the o ring to fail causing oil to be pumped out and into the valley in large quantities. Truck still ran fine...lucky to notice puddle under truck in woods when it apparently started...
Tried to replace the o-ring in truck(Dumb move on my part) and apparently there is a different edge filter in the pump that was reman than the one I took off the truck last year and it fell out..(can't find anything that fell out).
The one I replaced had an edge filter like pictured in Talyn's post but it will not fit the replacement pump....
I am for the time being putting the old pump back on as it works.
Will newer pumps fit and work properly if the hose fittings are changed. I have a 1997 PSD I read statements were it is stated that they will but the fittings need to be changed.
What problems a 50 cents o ring can cause...
There must have been something in the edge filter bore because after I replaced the o-ring, the pump will not make pressure now.
I also read that the edge filter was moved in 1995..what does that mean?
Thanks in advance
Now when I look at the old pump, the threads in the edge filter bore are stripped so the only solution now is replace the pump after only 9 months.
Wonder who is the best remanufacturer of this pump. Will be looking close at it before I install and if there is anything that looks fishy, it is going back.
This is my bread an dbutter truck...like $500-$800 per day when down. Can't afford having it down. Also will have to miss a major tractor show where Iusually sell a ton of parts...
All over a stupid "O" Ring that blew because somebody is a poor worker.
If I could SEE what is supposed to be in the replacement pump's edge filter bore, then I will know what to look for....
That long prong had to hold something in position...

It has a lot of pics and is helpful except I still do not have any idea what is in the EDGE FILTER BORE under that PLUG with the long rod on the end.
One pump I have has a 1/2" square by 1 1/4" long "EDGE FILTER" will not fit in other pump.

There are alot of really good manuals there. All .pdf and downloadable.
Closed at the end or does it have holes the length of the small barrel like this...
If yours looks like the pic ,,the edge filter is in the pump..
For the life of me, I cannot figure out why the pump will not build pressure when I only removed the plug on the "edge filter" bore and replaced the o-ring. I did not remove the pump so WHY will it not build pressure when I only replaced a single O-ring?
A real puzzler.....I am stumped....
ACTION:
You posted while I was posting...
The pump is a non-edge filter pump and the IRP has a closed end. I also have a new 94-95 irp and tried it also....Nothing with either one.
I have determined from research that the pump is a non edge filter pump so nothing exited the bore when I removed the plug with the pring on it to replace the broke O-ring...
That was all that I did..It ran fine before I removed the plug and has not run since...will not build pressure period!
THe pump I replaced last summer was not the correct pump for a 97 since it did have the edge filter. THat wa in the 94-95 pumps according to my research....
THe reman pump I put on last summer was the correct pump for a 97 7.3 and worked well until the o-ring ruptured and started leaking badly. Took some looking to determine it was the culprit. I replaced the remaining end plugs that I did not replace a year or so back when I got the plug replacement kit. I did the back and finished the front last week...That was when I knew I had a leak somewhere else. I wrapped the lines and that part of the pump with paper towels...The only one that had oil was the one aroung the plug and that was why I removed it and replaced the o-ring. THe ring had a definite break in it and was well worn in the same area.
