DUMB Questions here........

How long should it take to start a 1998 powerstroke? It seems like it shouldn't take as long as it does. I have to turn it over at least 10 seconds untill you finally hear what I would assume is the injectors clicking and it starts right up. Is this normal? Or what could be wrong?

I never owned a Powerstroke untill this one. I bought it with a blown engine and swapped it out. I am just trying to sell this as fast as I can but I don't want to show it if theres something wrong that needs to be fixed.

Also the oil pressure gauge after running for about 5 minutes starts to climb to the highest reading. Any Ideas? Is the oil pressure sensor a different part form a 97 F-250 to a 98 E-350?

I don't think so. You may have an early 99 but I am pretty sure you don't have a 1998 PSD.

I think that in 98 you either had a 97 PSD or an early 99 PSD like you said Barry.
You may need to find the tag and see what the build year actually is.

I don't know. It says 98 on the title and the build date is 98 so, it is what it is. Either way anybody have any input on the questions in this thread?

I'm not really sure what gauges they used in the 98 vans. Does the oil pressure go all the way to the red, or just on the high side of normal? If you put a 97 7.3 in a 98 van, did you swap out the PCM? Because of space restrictions, the E-series are usually set up differently than the F series trucks. Was the 97 donor a short block, long block, or complete engine?

Would there have been '98 E-350s like he posted? I'm wondering if only the pickups didn't have a '98 year?

That could be, but still no 98 PSD engines. It would have to have a 97 engine.

That's what I was thinking. The pick ups got a new body style so they skipped a model year. I don't remember if the vans had the same makeover.

It is a split shot engine. So if you want it to be a 99 then its a 99....
What about the hard starting? Is that how long it takes for the injectors to operate?

Does the oil pressure climb steady? or "peg" ? If it pegs then the sensor is bad. I had a bad temp sensor and that is what happened. It would get to a certain temp and then climb very very quickly to the top.

Well if its a '97 then it will have the "old" body style and if its a '98/99 then it will have the newer body style... And yes im pretty sure there was a '98 E-series but it did have the older motor...

When it turns over, is it doing it quickly? Have you tried to charge the batteries then start it?
