I have a set of replica door mirrors on my 55 F100, got them from old Ford parts a few year back.
Now my truck is back on the road, they keep moving as I drive. I set them back up in the right position, even with a tab of super glue on the swivel ball, eventually they end up looking at the floor.
Has anyone the same problem and did you fix it?
I am off in a few days on a long haul towing the caravan to so do need safe working mirrors. Any help would be much appreciated.
My "stock" mirrors have an allen head set screw on the top of the mirror head that pinches on the mirror ball. I have to crank it down pretty hard, but it keeps them where I aim them.
Hi Randy mine has one on the rear section that holds it tight but the actual swivel on the mirror head doesn't. It has slots that look like they may tighten the head but I guess the nut is behind the glass, so cant get at without breaking the glass I would imagine.
I tried to tighten the socket thing (like Randy's pic) many times. It would never stay long.
Plus I have a bed side spare that I could not see around with the little round mirrors. The vent window on the passenger side did not help there, even when they would stay.
I used BobJ49F2s mirror trick.
They are similar to some of the old truck mirrors, but not exact.
Now I can see!!!!! Plus they stay where I put them.
Thanks guys, those mirrors Brian, they would cure the problem, but as I am shhhhh a darksider they wouldn't suit the style of my truck. I will have a careful look today at removing the glass and tighten the nut. Mine are just like yours Randy but the mirror head is loose on the shaft that is held by the grub screw.
