I have noticed a lot of 08 6.4 at the local gas station that only sells LSD. Are the dealerships not telling people that they need to read the labels at the pump? Has anyone used LSD in their new truck for a long period of time? If you have, have you had any problems?
i use it all the time.iv got 32000 miles on my truck no problems
I'd be willing to bet your local station is selling ULSD but hasn't labeled their pumps yet. At 32k of consistent use, you should be seeing regen problems.
If I am not sure if the fuel is LSD OR ULSD. I go into the gas station and ask to see the Fuel Slip from the tanker truck. The fuel type is listed on the delivery slip. I have used this method several time to ensure I am getting the ULSD for my 6.0L PSD. In all case except one the fuel was ULSD although the pump said LSD.
Seriously, I've not seen it available here any more. Accidentally filled half my truck w/ it once. Kroger had cheapest diesel around. As I'm filling up, I realize the sticker says low and not 'ultra-low', man was I mad.
I don't know if low sulphur diesel (500ppm) is even available at all. I don't know if off-road fuel is 500ppm. Some claim to still have it, but I think they're wrong. I would bet you're getting ULSD (15ppm) fuel.
Is it me, or wouldn't it be false advertising if you didn't put the new ulsd stickers on the pump? Personally, I won't chance my new 6.4 to a gas station that can't change the stickers on the pump.
Yes you can still find LSD in many fuel stations. Both of the speedway stations in my town have LSD only... I can smell the difference between the two.. do the test..Give a good smell to LSd them ULSD. The nose ...knows.

I have thought that too, that your nose will tell the difference. I can't tell though.

There's a big difference in sulfur content between LSD & ULSD. Just because they started refilling their tanks with ULSD doesn't mean the sulfur content has gotten down to ULSD levels. Maybe it's just diluted down to 100 ppm or so.
Also the fuel stations must have their tanks certified as ULSD, and since it's not required they sell the new stuff yet, some owners won't pay to get the conversion done.
As for not buying from stations with the LSD stickers for your 6.4, I'd say thats a good idea.
I run lsd and ulsd and not a problem. mistakenly grab the off road nozzle (im in BFE so one side is off and the other is ulsd) and filled my truck with it and never had a problem. now im just dreding explaining it to ford if somthing goes wrong
