I am in the process of building a track bar for my ole ranger. I am using tractor 3 point cat. 2 top links. 3/4" bolt holes, heims, adjustable, etc. It is like the budget track bar on pirate in the tech library. My main question is what would be an optimum angle to make the two bars meet? I am assuming the longer the lower bar which = lower angle is better? No exp. in this department. Using 3/8" mild steel for axle brackets and leaf spring hanger is 5000# trailer hanger with 3/8" shackle bars. Mounting on t-case crossmember. All joined with grade5 3/4" hardware. Sound like I have enough strenth? Going on the big ranger. I got some serious axle wrap when hossin on it. Think the dahm pinion nearly touches the bed.
I fully agree there are better ways to build traction bars but for the money Ive got in them they worked fine for the brief period of time I used them.
I agree that good heims would be better, but for a traction bar i think they would be plenty tough enough to hold up.
strength isn't the issue, i know they will be strong enough, but durabilty is what im worried about, i know i wont put any on my truck......when mud and dirt gets in them (rather easily) it doesn't take long at all till its totally worn out and read to replace......which really isn't a big deal being cheap and all, but id rather build a truck i know i dont have to worry about parts failing......and yes ive seen them fail

Well folks I made my bar today. Took about 3 hours of fab/cuttin/weldin. The anti wrap bar works wonderfully. No more wrap at all. Flex is unaffected. Put it on a 36" tall log before and after. Same flex and measurements between fenders and tire. The truck will spin the tires on pavement now just mashin on it. The truck really takes off like a bat out of hell now. Pinion does not move at all now. I will get some pics up sometime tomorrow.
