Floor pan is also different believe it or not. The auto has a shorter 'hump' where the trans is. The two have different trans tunnels. With the OBS 92-97, an auto to manual conversion is much easier. You will need a slave cylinder, new manual flywheel to replace the flex plate from the auto, a clutch (not a dual mass...stay away from those), a new pedal box plus pedals, possibly different driveshafts, the trans, a shifter of course, a new or reflashed pcm, a block plate to cover the gear indicator from the auto (not necessary), new steering column, and a new wiring harness among other small things that I can't remember... In short, if you have a lot of money to do it good, but otherwise just get a built auto and t/c lock switch. Thats what I am doing temporarily.
On the subject of sticks though, I love driving sticks but there were no CC LB 4x4 7.3 true captains center console trucks built. As to talking on the phone while driving a stick, its easy... but not the best idea, and you can eat a burger and drive, just have to hold it in the shifting hand, 'cept it may get smashed.... haha
im thinking of eventually swapping out the auto tranny in my truck to a manual i'd like to know if any one has any experince with swaping trannys and how hard it would be thanks
Just out of sheer curiosity, why are you thinking of changing ?
One last argument that a 16 year old young man might want to consider. Just when you finally get your arm/hand positioned just where you want it on that plenty fine lil gal sittin real close up next to you...........SHIfT.......
Joe, I remember my younger days. I always had sticks, and when the GF sat next to me, the shifter was between her legs. Funny how long those shifts are.

Any of you guys remember the old NP435 4 speed? Reverse was to the right and down against the seat

I probably never owned an automatic transmission car until I was nearly 40, up until then everything I bought was geared towards street racing and back then sticks were at a decided advantage. But when it comes to everyday driving they're a definite downer nowadays. Not to mention the type of swap the kid is referring to seems nearly impossible to end up with anything you would be proud of.

well manual 7.3s are REALLY HARD TO FIND ESPECIALLY in long box and crew cab and i like manuals for pulling and the auto 7.3s loose 25 hp compared to the manual and a manual is a lot stronger when you start piling on the power and i probbably am going to use this truck for towing/ hauling i really dont want to stoop down to the dodge level for a diesel and a manual does the towing package on the F-250s have a tow/haul mode on the tranny

Jacob, the reason the manual has more HP is because Ford tried to have them keep up with the Auto. Keep your auto or get another truck with the stick. PERIOD.
