involuntary choke

My 63 I6 daily driver is sliding into choke as im driving it. It only seems to do it at high rpms but I know im pouring gas out on the road, as each time i stop im running about 1700 rpms and the choke button is about a half inch out from the dash. Its gotta be something simple right?

Thanks,

Nick

Broken, worn out, missing, or malfunctioning return spring. Which carb is it?

Nick if I read this correct you have a manual choke. It shouldn't move that easy mine stays put but it also takes a bit to move it. I have even worked at cleaning the cable just to get it moving easy. I don't know if there is an tension adjustment or not maybe someone here can help us out. If you tighten the cable clamp tight maybe it will help hold it.

sorry its a holley 1 barrel, and i know what you mean by it takes a bit to move it jd. I really havent messed with it much but i did tighten the cable clamps and it didnt change much. Normally its no big deal but it looks like Ill be driving on the freeway for a couple weeks and its really annoying and costly.

You could try installing a spring which would hold the choke open if the vibrations are causing it to close.

Good call phat. I think adding a spring may be a good fix.

Maybe the cable is worn out, don't know why it's being pulled back on though. You can find replacements at your favorite parts house. The pull **** probably will be different.
