I have an 08 F350 with the factory rear view camera installed. I would like to be able to turn the camera on with one of the upfitter switches and not just when it is in reverse.
i have not done it, but the way to do it is to find where the camara gets the signal that you are in reverse and cut it there and put it to a switch...but if i think about it the camara might be on all the time and just not showing up unless you are in reverse that would be more interesting to deal with, but some how the system knows you are in reverse and you can fool it if you find the right wire...
Found this post through the search function. Would like to give it some new life to see if anyone has done it yet and if so how? This would be a great use for hooking up and while traveling....also just cool. I understand the concept of tying in to make the camera receive power but am no electrician. Anyone found the corrrect wire and does it require anything extra such as a diode.
I haven't been able to do this yet, but have talked to a Ford Tech who initially thought there was more to it than just tapping into a wire. He was going to look into it and get back with me, and if he does and I can successfully pull it off, I will post it here.
You just want to turn on the factory camera whenever you want? Check out the link below. I can turn my rear view camera whenever I want...in any gear. Plus you get DVD/nav entry while driving (which is normally disabled):
