ok this is the first PS i have ever owned. gave $250.00 for it. hasnt been run in awhile F-350 crew cab auto. nice truck. it runs great shifts great, but in the 1800-2200 rpm range it shudders real hard but once it gets above 2300 it will run 65-90 MPH like a brand new one. any ideas?
I drained the water out of the filter bowl (water in fuel light came on the first time i started it) changed the oil (had about 28,000 miles on the oil) and fuel filter. the diesel itself doesn't look too bad. that is all i could see that it needed. air filter looks good the tranny fluid looks and smells good it shifts like it has been rebuilt/upgraded recently, it will put you back in your seat when it shifts. rear end fluid is clean. by the way truck has 190,000 miles on it
Did you use a gun when you stole that truck LOL ...

Not sure what additives you could use to clean out the crankcase but maybe just change the oil again....the oil additives may be depleted/contaminated already. The injectors really need clean oil to function properly.
no typo bought it at a farmers auction truck hasnt run in 2 yrs bidding started at 10 bucks wasnt planning on buying another diesel cuz of gas prices but hey i saw that and couldnt stop myself. the notes it had on the window stated it would not start. took the 24 series batterys out of it and put the ones off my 6.9 on it and put a new starter on it and it turned over a couple of times and started chuggin and then i took it out and put it to floor to try to clean it out(always works on my grouchy 6.9) and it smoothed out except for this problem. even the air works
i let it run in the driveway for the last hour and i noticed that from one side it sounds like it has an injector stuck and not firing (loud knocking from top of motor on passenger side) can you change just one injector and can the computer compensate for that? i know in my experience with my now dead 89 IDI 7.3 that i had to put 2 new injectors in it and it made it shake even harder at an idle but smoothed out its problems at anything above an idle. also are these 7.3's supposed to idle high when cold like an IDI?
also i will get some pics of it. the only exterior cosmetic issues it has is the rear bumper(typical for a farm truck) and the left rear fender where someone backed a gooseneck up wrong. interior is average power windows and locks work along with the keyless entry. darn cassette player even works(speakers dont distort even with bass all the way up with the volume max).the more i screw with the equipment in this truck and it all works makes me wonder why someone would stop driving cuz starter was bad. maybe they just said hey we got 190,000 miles out of it screw it. me on the other hand see 7.3 PS's with 500,000 plus miles on the original engine so why cant this thing get straitened out and run 200,000 more miles?
YOU GOT THAT TRUCK FOR $250!!! WOW!! DEAL OF THE LIFETIME
yes you can change one injector at a time. you can pull the valve cover and check for valve train issues (bent or broken push rod/rocker arm) as well as make sure all the injectors are squirting oil. It one is puking oil or not squirting any you have found the offending cylinder. If its not squirting any it could be electrical as well.
