I searched the forum and found nothing about installing a NP208 with the NP435 trans. I know it will not fit between the frame, normally...
I am building a '74 and I had this transmission and transfer case left over from another project, so I bolted it to the moter and set it in the frame to see if I could make it work.
Two options:
One would be to drop the motor mounts 2" and since I'll build a new crossmember anyway, I can drop the transfercase mount down another inch and it will clear the bottom of the frame, with about 1/2 inch gap to the frame.
Second option is to clock the transfer case on the adapter about twenty degrees by redrilling the adapter, I like this idea because this truck will have a 5 inch lift and it lines up the front shaft nicely (Yeah I know the rear shaft is still a problem, angle wise). I am concerned that it could jeopardize the oiling in the case tho.
Third option: Trade the 208 for a 205. The only negative part is the 205's low range, which can be remedied with a low gear kit or a doubler 203/205 if you have enough room.
Or an Atlas (or similar)... If you have the money.
Definitely one of the least desirable t-cases out there..chain drive front output and slip-yoke rear output..as noted above the 205 is a far better much stronger option. (no low gear sets available for the driver-drop 205 yet though..only the case and gears for the passenger-drop cases).
