Hey guys I bought an 81 flare side for my son it had a straight 300 6 engine and a 4 speed top load transmission with a np208.transfer case I have installed a 302 ho motor I have a 91 AOD Trans out of his wrecked mustang I want to install it in the truck with the np208.to.AOD transfer case I have bought the adapter plate I was wondering if it will mount up to the case with the right output shaft any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Most auto trany used in 4x4 use a different output shaft. To change the you need to rebuild the trany as the shaft is the last to come out and first to go in.

Maybe I am not following properly but why change the output shaft on the transmission when you can just simply re-yoke the driveshaft to have the right splines for the transmission?

OK the truck has a 300/T18(?) bolted to a NP208.
He wants to use a mustang 302/AOD and bolt the NP to the AOD mustang trany. The last I knew mustangs were 4x2 - read no transfer case.
He bought the adaptor that will let the NP208 bolt to the AOD.
Like I said in my first post most if not all auto tranys used with transfer cases used a different output shaft then if just used in a car.
So with the AOD/NP208 adaptor he would need the 4x4 AOD output shaft.
He may also need to change the NP208 input shaft to work with the AOD output shaft.
Then again I could be wrong as I got thinking of what I had to do for a C4/Dana30. I don't remember changing the output shaft on the C4 but do remember an adapter shaft between the auto shaft & transfer case shaft.
The OP should check with who he got the adaptor from and what all is needed to make this work. Maybe he needs the outside adaptor and a shaft adaptor.

Ah ok. So we are talking about the Transmission to transfer case coupling. Ok I was not following at first I thought we were talking about driveshaft to output shaft.
I couldn't say on that but I have changed transfer cases before but I cant vouch for if the output shafts on the transmission are different or not.
In this case you would have to change the output shaft unless you were able to rebuild the transfer case and swap out the shaft on it to match with the transmission being used. Not sure if that can be done and might be hard to find someone to do that as not many places rebuild transfer cases anymore as its cheaper to just buy new ones now.
