On the truck in my signature I was attempting to turn down the fuel injection pump on the top of the engine. In the process I stripped the head off one of the bolts that holds the plate on where you adjust it. Normally I would just drill out a broken bolt but I cannot fit a drill in such a tight space. And I tried to take the pump off but it is not wanting to come off either. Does anyone have any suggestions? On either getting the bolt out or taking the pump off. THanks
To take the pump off, Undo all the injection lines at the injectors first along with the supply fuel line at the back ect. Then undo the 3 bolts around the pump holing it to the cover. Then remove the oil filler neck on the front of where the injection pump mounts. When you remove the cover, you will see 3 little bolts that hold the injection pump to the gear. undo those bolts and it should slide back and come right out. I do not know the manufactures way but this is somewhat How i take them off. I usually leave all 8 injction lines attached to the IP so the keep them all organized. May have to work some to get it out but it should come. Anyway, thats on a 7.3 but your 6.9 should not be very much different. Your probably just getting hung up on the bolts that hold the Drive gear to the injectin pump. Well, Good luck.

What you just described is the text book way to remove the injector pump on the 6.9 or 7.3 IDI. Only thing I would add is the rear of the pump has to tilt up slightly after it is pulled out of the drive gear housing in order to get it out of its pocket on the top of the engine.
There will be 3 bolts holding the pump case to the housing. the 2 bolts are the same as the top bolt but are somewhat hidden. you will have a bolt on the top and 2 bolts 1 on each lower side of the pump. I have the specal S shaped wrench that makes it easier to remove but I have taken them off with just a regualr endwrench. I had to use both ends and could only make the bolt turn a few degrees before switching the wrench over and end by end. Took me 5 minuts of turning just to get it out. how many bolts did you take out of the pump holding it to the engine?
David, As for being correct on how to pull the pump, I had no Idea I was correct. Never seen a book for it.
I wouldn't remove the complete top gear cover assembly, Just the plate that is on the front of it that covers the access hole to get the screws out, which on yours should be the oil fill, if not it will just have a small plate covering it, either one will have 2 bolts. Taking off the complete top cover will require you keep the gear in time and is not required to be pulled to remove the pump..
Ya I already messed up lifted that cover off a little bit. I didn't take it completely off, but i picked it up and forward a little. I think I just screwed up big time didn't I?
I dont know if they were or not. I am assuming that I will have to start the engine to see if that is the case? I have been working on other projects so I didnt get to work on this truck today.
