The D2's have hardened exhaust seats and are basically an equal to the heard. The seats are thin and a valve job are to and your back to the basic head.. they are not insert seats
sorry, plain english please, don't know much about heads
There is not a lot of info to go with your question, so I'll try to fill in the blanks:
You have a '73 F-100?
It most likely has a 360 2V engine, breaker point ignition, a capitol "T" on the #1 intake runner.
If all you do is drive on the street, the heads you have are fine. If they have problems, any FE head with stock size valves will work fine, although you would probably be better off with the later heads that have hardened seats installed.
The forum moderator, Art Krewat lives in new York and has some FE engines and parts that include heads with hardened seats. If I lived in New York, I'd be all over this one: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...ng-island.html
If your engine and intended useage are anything other than what I described, help us out with that info.
Are D2TE heads worth a hill of beans as far as keeping them?I'm running them right now, should I change up?
More plain English:
The D2TE heads are the last of the FE heads available on trucks from 1972 and up.
They are setup with hardened exhaust valve seats to use with unleaded gas.
If they had a valve job done, chances are the hardening is gone.
There is no reason to upgrade, they are very good as-is.
If you were looking for high-RPM power with a cam and a 4bbl, you could install 428CJ-sized valves and do a good porting job, and they would be a great head to use.
In your case, there's really no reason to upgrade unless you just want to spend money
Anybody got any tips for cam setup on these? Its a street driver, but only a toy,so some extra power's not gonna hurt anything,as long as its not going to load up at a long red light.Economy is not a factor, that's what my little sunfire's for.But I don't want to overdo it.The guy I bought them from said to go with a solid lifter setup.
