I thought I had a 79 truck engine in my shop but after removing the Eddlebrock Performer 460 intake and finally finding the casting numbers I think they say E8TE. Does anyone have any info on these?
Info meaning what? its 1988 year but check the block casting to see if its a 88 block to match, they started using fuel injection in the late 80's. But the only real difference should be is the fuel injection system used compared to the carburetor setup. Unless there is a design difference in the cylinder head ports but im not sure.
Well I got some more info on these heads from another forum. Apparently they were only made for 1 year. They were the last heads for a carburated motor home with a 460. They are simular to a D3VE head with only minor changes. Im not sure what the changes are until I can set them next to a set of D3VE's. Altho one thing I noticed is they have some plumbing on the rear of the head for some smog equipment.
Oh and for future reference they are NOT fuel injected heads!
I wasn't awhare ford had made another carb head after the D3 casting. I have two 87 motors at the shop. I will look to see what heads they have. maybe one was a late 87 build and got the heads and than I can compare as well.
Never heard of anything past an E-6T head, but I have seen E3T, E5T, and E6T heads for carbed 460s. And yes, they have smog ports on the rear. I just plugged them with an appropriate wash plug I got from the local NAPA store.
Like I said, aparantly these were just for motor homes before they switched to fuel injection. One thing that threw me off is all my older 429/460's have the D3 casting on the outside of the head on a flat spot between 3 & 4 exhaust ports. On these E8 heads I had to take the Eddlebrock intake off and look under the head at about 1 & 2 intake ports with a mirror. One casting was pretty clear to read and the other wasnt. Like they made these heads in a hurry. I dont know the history of this motor and I never heard the motor run but it looked like it was in running condition with a carb intake. Hopefully I will start messin with these heads soon and measure the valves to see what size they are.
unless they have been changed out and performance work done to them they should be 2.08/1.67.
The info on the E8TE heads bieng for carbed motor homes is correct, it also came from Scott aka the mad porter and if anyone knows the big block ford heads he is the man.

There is no such casting number as a E8 for the blocks, the last revision was 1979 and the block casting number D9TE was used on teh blocks up until the time ford discontinued the 460. Basically all blocks built 1979 and after will have that casting number, you need to find the date code in the lifter gallery and decode that to find out exactly when it was cast.
I have a 460 from a motor home which I think is around an 87 or 86 model. I keep forgetting to check what I have at work. Not enough free time and to much work that needs done.
Being a newbe on 460s and I have a 1988 moterhome. I was looking up parts earley on and found that 1988 is supose to be the year that fule injecton was introdused. I was confused because my 88 was carbed, till I found that my chassey was bilt in 1987. I have mesured the valves in the heads from this moter I think they are E8TE but the numbers were so degraded I had to do a rubing to get aney thing, and a set of D3VE heads and a set of DOVE heads I have and all the valves mesure 2.08 and 1.66. Well all the exaust were quite close with a little whear from 1.6455 to 1.6585 wich would indicate they use to be 1.66
I have a 77 460 from a ltd. built it for a 77f150 full time 4x4. I used that body up and subframed a 76f250 2x supercab with 77 f150 4x parts. it has KB flattops and a torque cam with the original motorcraft spreadbore and 2.5 inch primary pipes off of cast manifolds into a 3" flowmaster single out the passenger side forward of the rear tire. It idles like a bus and rings like a stang when it's opened up. It's running a c6, full time case and 3:78 gears turning 285 75r16 dick cepek mud country tires. I have to run premium but I get 10-11 empty no headwind if I don't go over 60mph and I get 7-8 towing a car trailer loaded at 70 mph. it will go over 100 but I don't like doing it. I rented a uhaul with the v10 and found it to be better than my 460. I junked an 87 f350 2x which had a carbed 460. I just bought a high mileage 90 f350 460 4x4 in chicago for parts, need to pick it up. I'm driving an 82 e350 4x4 and am putting another van together out of a 79 460 club wagon and a 77 quadravan. I had a 58 f350 farm truck 17.5 6lug wheels 6:8? gears... that I put 8lug drum brakes and 4:11 rearend from a 67 f350 into. it was a tough truck and would finally go over 45mph.
