Bogging Rig update

So after some discussion over on pirate and a lil budget reconfiguration the plan now is: 545 ci from carl, custom carb(Thanks for the recommend Kris), built to hell c6, np 205, spooled 1 tons front and rear on leaves. cut 44 inch boggers or 18.4x16.1 v treads. 5.13's and a heavy right foot. So does this look a lil better? Ill see if its road legal at the end, if it is, then boggers, if not vtreads. Also if not, through the hood DEC headers, seperate pipes, 2 inchs each. should sound nasty at 6000 rpm...................

followed the discussion on pirate and I agree with what they said

definitely go with the one tons, are you going to build it when you get back?

Nah just gonna talk to my guy back home thats was gonna do the work, lil more labor, lil more parts, might as well do it right, you know? Unless one of you guys wanna do it, Prob. be paying bout an even grand, thats for a motor swap, build the trans, swap to leaf springs and one tons, and have exhaust put on it. Itll be about 3 foot of straight pipe of the fenderwell headers if i make it street legal. Any takers?

yeah it would be nasty but thats more like a 20k build. Get your wallet ready.

Never happen.

A d60 front alone needing rebuild will cost you a grand. The internals for a D60F (chromo shafts ujoints gears and locker plus rebuild kit bearings brakes crossover and etc) to handle 44" cut boggers will cost you another 3grand+. A D70 or Sterling will cost you a minimum of $6-800 built the way you need it (gears welded carrier rebuild kit and etc) Transmission will cost $1500+. The one I want is $1800. 1350 or 1410 drive shafts with yokes will be $1000 from HAD. The proform carb will be $725 and other misc items for the motor expect to spend 2k. 44" boggers and a minimum of beadlock rears/stealie fronts will be $2500+. Hydroboost brakes and hydro assist steering will be another $500 if you junkyard/TSC'd it.

If by some miracle set forth by God himself you manage to get this thing completed correctly doing most of the work yourself and have all the kinks worked out for less than 20k Id love to see this truck.

This places a 4 out of a possible 10 on STGs NEVER HAPPEN-O-METER.

a grand to pay someone to do the work(i hope). Even that seems low for buying the misc. stuff to do the job. motormounts, hardware, welding supplies, ect.

I was gonna say, you'll have just a grand alone in in labor to put the motor, tranny and transfer case in the truck if its from a decent shop. And thats not including the additional labor costs to have them rebuild the tranny, or transfer case. Then theres the cost of the exhaust, mine from my street legal 150 cost almost $500 alone and that is from the motor back. So unless this guy you know is a really good friend or close relative, to have them put this all together for you and only charge $1000 in labor, I'd tell them thanks but no thanks and go find a real pro, because something don't sound right. For most shops to put together what you are looking to do, labor alone is gonna run you closer to the $3-4k mark just due to the crazy amount of time that will be involved. As Kris said, I think this sounds more like a $20k or more build, unless you do ALL of the labor yourself.

I'm doing an engine/tranny/t-case swap in the Jeep for $1000. Worth more actually, he is a good friend though. So for you to get the above, plus axles for 1k, would be a miracle or some one in deperate need of some cash.

and...

setting up a 545 to run perfectly with all components between the radiator and the exhaust tips is much different than setting up a 400/C6/205. We are talking MUCH more hp/torque/heat/fuel etc

You're talking about the perfect truck, but you need to be realistic.
All of us would love to own a truck like that, but as most have found out, things get expensive, quick. And sticking to a budget just doesn't happen (or is a lot harder than expected).

Like everyone said, there's no way you would get someone to proberly install everything you mentioned for $1,000.
I help out a lot of my friends for beer alone, but I'd tell them they were crazy if they thought I would do half of that tuff for double the money.

I saw that thread on pirate, pretty much good advice all the way around. I would just add that I dunno about a spool in the front, they tend to push unless your cool with jumping out out to flip hubs. I'd go with a selectable like an arb up front. Otherwise sounds awesome.

I'm not familiar with the cars by carl guy. Pretty reputable then?

Yeah I know the guy ok. Hes my brother-in-law, he does good work. Hes got his own torch, welder, that kinda **** to do this stuff. Ive already got the rear axles, its, god help me, a chevy 14 bolt, and ive got a lead on a front axle for $500 from a guy back home sqitching to rocks. I know ill have to watch my budget on the other ****, the $500 exahust, well you got screwed. My 3 inch from the headers back was 250 with the flowmasters, and this truck is gonna run about 3 foot of 3 1/2 inch pipe off the header. The trans will be a built at home job, and I think ive got lead on some 90% 44 boggers. So well see if i cant keep it under 10 to 15 thousand. Wish me luck, im gonna need it...........
