Ok, so I drive an old 1994 ford IDI turbo diesel F-250, and the only computer on it is for the transmission. SO, when my dad called and asked what he could do to his 2002 E-450 V10 motor home to improve mpg, I said I would look into it.
I know practially nothing about computer engine management. What are you guys doing to these motors to improve power/mpg?
Slow down ive tryed k&n a y pipe highflow converter and a flowmaster 70 and a superchip. I only got about 2 mph more for the money ive spent just slowin from 70 to 60 will almost net the same milage .

We on this site have a kinda warped view of what a mileage increase really is.
A 2 mpg increase is 20% !!! That is a huge increase in milage. That means you are paying 20% less for gas. It just sounds bad because it is only 2 mpg.
On a 30 mpg car a 20% increas give you 36mpg !! Now that sounds significant but perentage and change wise it is the same 20% less on fuel costs!!
So we on this site should not minimize any mpg fuel increases and consider them in percentages, not mpg.
Think of it this way... how far would you go out of the way for .80 cent per gallon cheapper fuel?? At $4/gal that is 20%.

Very well put. If you are only driving 5000 miles a year it may not be worth it. I tend to put over 20k on my pickup. Going from 10 mpg to 12 would save about $1600 of fuel. Even a 1 mpg increase would pay for the tuner and exhaust I'm thinking about in a year or less. After that it goes into my pocket. I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but that works for me.
but seriously before you buy some thing to SAVE A BUNDLE on gas, do a cost comparison, lise stated in the above posts. alot of things "advertise" huge gains, but alot of people have come to find out the gains are slim to none. about the best bang for the buck "gas wise" is the programmer / chips(from what i've read in quite a few other forums as well).
i've read good things about the diablo programmer, and the SCT chips/programmers. i've had the SCT 5 position chip on my "to get" list for a while, just have had other priorities right now, lol!
drive easy, drive calm, and roll the windows and just cruze.........that's what i do any way, i cruze at 55-60.
As others know, I have headers/ypipe, K&N FIPK intake, custom 87 SCT tune, free flowing all mandrel bent exhaust and a high flow cat. All that stuff and I think my mpgs went down a little.(The mud tires don't help though) The truck in stock form is pretty darn mpg friendly. A freeer flowing muffler and maybe a CAI would help mpg some but just a tad.
Got to be gentle on the go pedal to save fuel. I've heard of mpg gains running 93 octane with a 93 octane tune but havn't tried it for myself because then I'd have to fill up with 93 ocatane.
