hey guys, my son-in-law has a 93 f150 with the straight 6 in it. the problem he is having is that it acts like its running out of fuel when he gives it some gas. if he barely gives it the gas its ok but just driving it regular it does it, not really a skip but morelike fuel starvation. any help? thanks, tom
oddly enough, it could also be the distributor cap/rotor.
when you have a symptom that could be darn near anything, it might be a good idea to check the codes, see if they point you in a particular direction. (often they are as universal as the symptoms)
good luck! it starts off that way then about two months later it wont start. i've changed the all wires, pluggs, distributer, map sensor, check for vac leaks, changed the TFI,replaced the egr valve, cleaned the throttle boby ,replaced tb gasket. compresion is good. ithink it might be electrical, because the fuel pump in the tanks wont shut off.
I was reading a post here yesterday that sounded a lot like yours. The guy had it at a shop. Anyway, they eventually replaced the computer with a junkyard unit and it completely fixed everything. He had engine dying plus guages jumping around and stuff like that...I was real intermittent.
xlttruck, does this happen when the engine is still cold, or upon startup? then after that, while driving, it will just cough when you gas it? when my 93 did that last winter, i changed the iac valve, and the fuel pressure regulator. it doesnt do that anymore. i think in my case what was happening was the fuel pressure regulator was not keeping the system pressurized, and when it sat overnight, it took forever to pressurize the lines. i also replaced the vaccuum lines, and hoses just for kicks. i did all those things and it works now, but that was my situation. it may not fix your problem. i wish you the best of luck, sir.
Run into the same problem myself from time to time.
Occurs after I shut the thing down for a couple of min and start it back up. I associate that with vapor lock due to the craptastic location of the fuel rail.
Also occurs at around 1/4 to 1/2 throttle from time to time. Don't know why, and believe me I have tried to rectify the problem. But it seems to go away when I give it more gas (floor it). I think it might be ignition related so I'm down to replacing the entire distributor. Think it might be that little plastic gear at the end is worn out. Or could be that the thing isn't advancing like it should.
