Q's on head gaskets

So im doing head gaskets on my 88 7.3 and I was wondering what is the torque spec on the rocker arms? Also is it ok to reuse the old head bolts? Different question, Can diesel fuel be save ,like the fuel in the tanks has been in there for bout 2 years. Could I put a few diesel clean bottles in the tank and it would be fine? Also I was wondering if I could swap a 93 ip into the 88, but the 93 has e4od and the 88 has the c6. Would i just punch out the roll pin and slid on the vacuum lines onto the 93 ip fromt he 88ip? Thanks

reusing the head bolts are ok, as long as they are not over stretched. gotta measure them. not sure about the torque specs, im outta town and dont have my books with me. better to just junk that fuel and get fresh stuff man. yes, you can swap the ip. tranny doesnt matter.

Ok, how long are the head bolts then? Also the differents between the pumps are the connecters on the side, for the trans, one's vacuum and one's elect. I'm wondering if I could swap them? I hear that the 93 is a better ip then the 88, is that true?

not sure what the measurement should be under. And I heard the 7.3 ip is better then the 6.9 but haven't heard a thing about 7.3 vs 7.3

Id use that fuel without a second thought. Diesel doesnt go bad the way gas does. Ive put almost 50 gallons of fuel bout 2 years or so old through my truck, and have plenty of power and a consistent 20 mpg. Some additives never hurt, but I didnt use any.

Just line up the head bolts and look at them...one thing to consider is ensure you get ALL the crud out of the Hbolt holes or it will torque up in dirt before time.

PM me your email addy......since you do not have PM's enabled.... I will answer it and I will forward all you need to know re doing the head bolts.....torque and sequence(s)

Torque on the rocker arms is 20 ft. lbs.......test your torque wrench on a bench vice first to make sure it's at 20 ft lbs.....when I did my rocker arms my torque wrench was off and I busted a few bolts.....not fun.

The only difference I really know of on the 7.3 ip's are the factory turbo trucks.

Well, I put the new head gaskets on and I put the ip on it, with the return line kit on too. It still won't start. Now the return line kit is for the later style injectors, so I don't think it will matters, or does it? I'm thinkin that the timing is off, because it won't start. What you guys think?

I'm getting 12v. Yes I took off the ip housing and the gear. So you think the timing is off?

Like Rick said ... FOR SURE DUDE!

Removing the IP gear cover is the incorrect method for removing the IP ... And it causes all sorts of pains!

The IP is no longer in time with the motor!

Now you need to get #1 cylinder to TDC on compression and HOPEFULLY you'll be able to use a mirror or something to see the timing 'Y' on the cam gear, so you can match it up to the 'Y' on the IP gear ... If not you'll have to pull the front of the motor off!

Read this: IP Gear Timing

-Enjoy
