I recently replaced the shocks on my 2002 350 4x4, Ive got about 80 K on it. should I look at replacing the bump-steer shock on the front axel too? If so, it must be simple to do (should have looked before posting) and how much do they run, which brand should I get?

Very simple to check to see if you need a new one...pull two bolts and it will come off. Then see if the piston/valve assembly is working correctly. It should be stiff to both push and pull. Summit Racing has Rancho brand them and there are a number of other online shops that have Ranchos as well as many other fine brands.
My Rancho is a beefier version over the stock unit. However, I would not recommend it to anyone. It works fine, but after the first year, it looks like complete crap. It rusted out in no time. I can't wait until it goes out (or I smash it on a boulder), then I can get a different one.
I changed mine this past weekend. Stock one was dented, rusted and the shaft was bent. Got a skyjacker OEM shipped for $48 from topguncustomz on ebay. Fast shipping.
Glad I did it.

That's what happened to mine too...the finish sucks. I wonder if the valving could take powder coating heat?
400* F for 20min+ I think would cook the crap out of it. In the past I've had good luck with a wirewheel, Rustoleom primer, and then Rustoleom paint. Let it hang out in the sun for a couple hours after each coat (2 primer, 3 color).
These replies seem helpful (not that I would expect anything else from this site). I'm going to pull the bolts and check so see if it needs to be replaced.
Also as Pocket and nlemerise noted, I too have seen many Rancho brand products rust out quickly. Thanks
I just put some ranchos all around that I got a good deal on, sanded them and then hit them with a couple coats of rustolem black. They seem to be fine but only time will tell. I think they would be fine if painted properly but I wouldnt try powered coating, just dont think it would be a good idea.
